Hi Terry, If you trust in your doc then I would go for it, anything to help ease the difficulty, I always thought I was a experiment to my doctor, however now I think he just had a set of processes I had to be put thru to give him an accurate read maybe you are also being put thru some options have faith and all the best
Hello Terry, I have just been prescribed Pregablim and i am also taking Citalopram. I haven't taken any yet as th GP said how strong they were so i am not sure what to do.I am worried about the side effects. Have you started yours yet
Elizabeth.
hello elizabeth thank you for your reply no i havnt started them yet , worried about more side effects , like many meds some people say they have help others not , just dont want to keep taking tablets and then having to go through the withdrawel effects if they dont work , the are suppose to help with anxiety , but not with depression
Terry,
I started pregabalin with my citalopram last Friday. I was referred to the psychiatric consultant for a proper medical and medication review largely because of my anxiety. This time last week I was lucky to be getting 4-5 hours sleep a night. I was getting more anxious, and the more anxious, the less sleep etc. I saw the Dr on Friday morning and together we decided we had to run harder at both the depression, and anxiety.
So last Friday I upped citalopram to 30mg, and started on pregabalin 75mg x 2. 1 am, 1 pm. I felt the benefits immediately. And I mean immediately. On popping the first pill on Friday night, I slept 6 hours straight, and have continued to sleep between 6-8 hours a night ever since. The night pill can leave me a little spaced in the morning, but not too much. It's the one I take at 10am I have to worry about. I come 'up' in about and hour to 90 minutes. Usually need a afternoon nap. And then am still quite spaced for most of the afternoon. 6 days in, the side effects are diminishing. So much so, im considering cycling to work again tomorrow. It's a 10mile cycle each direction. Im also lucky. I asked HR for a quiet room so I have a space I can disappear too, and I've even had my afternoon nap each day at work.
Today though, I said I felt better, and too I didn't need my afternoon nap.
As far as I'm concerned, pregabalin is working wonders for me already. I'm delighted I've started it. I'm feeling a whole lot better. Feeling like I have energy again. I'm beginning to feel like I'm me again. I'm quite excited about how things are going.
Tomorrow I up my citalopram to 40mg, and increases the pregabalin to 225mg. 75mg x 1 in the morning, and x 2 before I go to bed at night.
Good luck to you all. I hope you find some encouragement with my words. As with all side effects, just ride them out. Pregabalin seems to be working wonders for me. I hope it does for you too.
Thats great news ELR take it day by day though dont lose faith if you have a bad day it happens to everyone with or without this illness. It sounds like you are on your way to happiness again dont let anything stop your positive mindset
Stevo. You are correct as always. I'm trying not to get too over excited that this 'is it'. I have learnt by my past experiences. One day at a time, and I hoe that each day to come is just a little bit better than the day before.
Terry, Elizabeth, how are you guys holding up? Have you started taking your pregabalin? Please keep us posted on how you are feeling, and how you are doing.
Take care guys. x
Hello, thanks for asking thou i still haven't started the Pregabalin. I am worried about weight gain as i have gained lots of weight with the Citalopram and other drugs i take for pain.
Elizabeth
hello E.L.R. i still havnt plucked up the courage yet but might bite the bullet tonight , having such bad anxiety and feeling really bad on the cit at the moment , iwas hoping the cit would have kicked in by now but no reduction in my anxiety 8 weeks on
Terry. I was exactly the same on the Cita after 8 weeks. In fact, my anxiety was getting worse. Thus the pregabalin. In fact I started the pregabalin at the end of my 8th week on the Cita. Sounds like our timeframes are similar. Have faith. I won't proclaim pregabalin as a wonder drug, but it does seem to be working for me. Not only has the anxiety subsided, but I've had a surge of energy. This is maybe due to increased citalopram too, but I've been out and about, running, showered, had a hair cut, shaved. Basically feeling energised, wanting to look after myself and to participate in life again. I really hope it works for you too. As I said to Stevo though, I'm cautious too. It's too early so say it's worked, but with the help of pregabalin, I'm on the upward curve on this emotional roller coaster of life at the moment.
Please take care. And good luck and best wishes.
hi E.L.R. i have increased my cit to 30mg only the last 2 days so cant say i feell any better may be the pregablin will help me untill the cit kicks in
Yep. I increased Cita to 30mg last week, and last night have increased now to 40mg. When I was on Cita only, it was basically 2 weeks feeling rubbish, 3rd week starting to feel better, 4th week downer, up by 10mg and repeat all again. Thus my psychiatric consultant recommended upping Cita to 30mg for a week only in order to get me to 40mg (the maximum dose) this week, with hopefully less side effects than just jumping straight to 40mg. For me this seems to be working. Together with the pregabalin of course. It's only been a week on the combo, so I have to wait with baited breath to see what happens on weeks 2,3,4,5.... But I'll keep posting. Fingers crossed the usual downer week 4 will not be experienced this time round.
Sorry, just to add terry, the pregabalin results are quick. Well at least they were for me. (Within 1 hour) on popping my first pill and going to bed, I drifted into the best sleep I had in weeks/months, and managed 6hours that night. Average between 6-8 hours every night since.
The daytime drowsiness and feeling spaced is subsiding mostly now after being on it for a week. Enough so I cycled to work today. Let's see if I need my afternoon nap, but I didn't need it yesterday.
Its awesome you are starting to feel good ELR hang in there buddy take it day by day
hi E.L.R. just wondering how you are feeling now on the pregablin and cit , is it still having good effects have the side effects decreased ,
Hi Terry,
I'm pleased to say things seem to be going very well. The pregabalin seems to be doing its job. I feel much calmer most of the time, am sleeping a whole lot better and yes, the side effects seem to have more or less subsided. I've had enough confidence to begin driving and cycling again. I was advised to take care with both while adjusting to the pregabalin.
Have you started? I hope you have such positive results as I have.
Take care, and recover quick.
