Citalopram and Alcohol?

So I've been on these meds for abouts a week and a half and I have a festival coming up this weekend.

I want to binge drink and all day like I normally do but I'm worried the medication might effect it.

Im on 20mg.

I was a normal adventures guy. Liked to party a lot. up until 3 weeks ago when I had my first panic attack

After that I couldn't do anything as I was so scared do everything

I'm feeling loads better since I've been on the tablets. Few side effects.

I think what puts me off it was when I was hungover my anxiety peaked. When I was drunk I was fine but the next day I would be in such a state that I couldn't leave my room. But if I take a tablet the next day will it stop this...?

And what's your exaperince on drinking and taking citalopram

You probably know what the advise is regarding drinking alcohol on anti depressants but it's entirely up to you if you drink, it's unlikely to sabotage your recovery but taking a tablet the day after is also unlikely to make you feel better either I'm afraid.

My advise would be to have a few drinks, have a good time, drink plenty of water in between but be prepared for some anxiety the day after, you may be lucky if your feeling better that you won't but is it worth the risk, that's down to your judgement.

I drank alcohol at times whilst on these meds ... but I had been on them for many years.  I wouldn't advise drinking heavily, especially as you've only been on them a short while, and agree - just try 1 or 2.

Alcohol is a depressant and a mix might make you feel really bad - not just hungover, but with anxiety.

These meds are serious stuff and not to be messed with.  You've still a long way to go 

So just go easy.

I find that alcohol increases the side-effects of Citalopram, tiredness, yawning etc.  It also gives me a hangover, something I hardly ever used to get before I was taking Cit.

I went out on a heavy night session on the beer a few years ago when I first started on cit. I wouldn't advise heavy drinking as it really made me out of it I couldn't remember getting home. 

Cant remember the next day being anxious just really bad hangover.

I agree with the others, if I drink I usually feel a lot more anxious the next day, my symptoms seem to be a lot worse. I also feel really down, drinking and Citalopram has not had a good effect on me. 

It really is down to you, id just make sure you're careful and it would be useful for the friends you're going with to be aware incase you need some support ☺️

Very early days for you yet pal, some people are fine on citalopram for the first few weeks then some people get late side effects later so I'd be careful if I were you, may be a few but that will be hard to do at a festival, be sensible not regretable, take care pal

Thanks for the responses  guys. I had a drink last night at a pub  to test it out and I was fine just got drunk really fast. Will make sure I take it easy at the weekend 

So far no side effect this morning but it's still early.

Defintely makes you get more hammered with less booze.

With me i am fine the next day, start getting tired and a bit down in the following evening and worse days after. 

So say I go out on a saturday I will be not too bad sunday and 50/50 monday, usually have a bad sleep monday night

Tuesday to fri I get down and moody and always promise not too do it again.

Then things build up for the weeks after.

Seems to be a big variation with people, I am a freak with booze
