citalopram and propranolol

I take citalopram 40mg and propranolol 160 mg sr for anxiety. Is it ok to also take a diazapan 2mg and how will it make me feel

Was the Diazepam prescribed by your doctor?

Hi Moira, 2mg of diazepam is quite a low dose it should reduce the symptoms of your anxiety though, propranolol with reduce the fast heart beating so overall you should feel more relaxed but only take if prescribed by your GP. Neil

It was prescribed but i didn't take it. The doc then increased th propanolol

Is it ok to take with citalopram

They are fine to take together. You do seem to be on a high dose of propranolol though for the tachycardia I presume. This stuff doesn't resolve the anxiety though ,it's just used to reduce the heart palpitations. Do you have high blood pressure as well and are you getting regular blood pressure tests? Do you get any side effects from the propranolol like difficulty sleeping and then very vivid dreams when you do manage to sleep. The diazepam will just chill you out a little, make you less on edge and a little more relaxed as it's a muscle relaxant. 2 mg is a very low dose though, I usually take 10 mg a day. Although a very effective drug for anxiety it does come with its problems though - dependence(even after a short period), tolerance(need  higher dose just to get initial benefits) and pretty horrendous withdrawal symptoms. Helps me with sleep though as well being an M.E sufferer, although you can wake up feeling pretty anxious. They are ok to take together though.

It is a high dose. I do suffer for high BP too. Is it ok to take diazapam with citalopram too

Hi Moira you can take diazepam with both medication however my advice is take them only when necessary and not every day. They are highly addictive and tolerance can be reached within 2 weeks so use them sparingly.
