citalopram erectile issue please help !!!

My doctor prescribed me 40 mg citalopram for depression half a pill for just 4 days . I only took half first day and other half second day (1 pill overall) and i skipped third day and propably wont take it again cuz i stopped getting erections and sex drive decreased.

Question is i just took one pill if i stopped taking it will my erections be back again ? Please tell me please !

Have no fear, this is a very common side effect with SSRI's. I've been on Citalopram since May last year and at one stage (when I was at my highest dose) I had no sex drive and was completely non-existent 'there'. As I've begun tapering off, things have slowly improved. However, you should weight the long-term benefits of better mental health against the short-term (hopefully) in which you will be using the drug

Obviously as a female I can't offer  great deal of advice regarding erections, but I am only 20mg of citalopram and my sex drive decreased very rapidly. I also used to suffer from vulvodynia and dyspareunia in the past which I had treatment for and had appeared to have recovered from. However I have noticed it has come back and now that have mentioned about loss of erection I might question whether this is to do with me also taking citalopram. But yes this is a very common side effect with SSRI's so if you let your GP know they may direct your medication to something else.

Hi,

Sorry for late reply, I stupidly ran out of cita last weekend, didn't get me repeat in on time!. I had to wait until Monday before I got a prescription again and have suffered until this morn when I woke up feeling much better.

Well, better, with the usual lack of the old fella not greeting me as he has done these past decades!

It is a side effect and it will come back. It just goes to show when the brain needs repairing the body has to shut down certain things. I don't cry either!

It also goes to prove where our brain is sometimes found! Lol!

Hang in there (Oops!), worry about getting better mate.

Regards,

David
