Citalopram help please!? thankyou.

Hi all,

To keep this short you can see my main reasons for starting cit on my other post but this one is for the drug itself.

I started 10mg and I'm on day 7 now. (May 27) I started taking it at night and it gave me insomnia to the point where I couldn't function at all and with the heightened anxiety that came with it I nearly caved.

So my questions are thus.......

I'm now taking it in the morning how long till the drowsy effect goes? Will it ever go?

Taking it at night does the insomnia ever go? I feel I had mo choice bit to swap to mornings.

My morning anxiety is BAD when will that go? Will that ever go? The really bad body shaking and shock to the system has alleviated some.

I'm 5'5 female 40 years old and 8st 12lbs. Is 10mg enough or will I just know later on?

Are there people who started on 10mg and stayed on 10?

I know It's different for everyone and timing is an issue none of us can really know I'm just desperate for good feedback really.

God luck to you all who are going through this, just starting it or have come out the other side.

Thankyou

a right mess in progress.

Hi Crest. I started on 10mg citalopram just over a month ago. The first 9-10 days were a living hell, I thought I was going completely mad. I was already suffering from insomnia before I went on them so doc advised me from the start to take them in the morning. I had a panic attack almost everyday at work a few hrs after taking it for the first week or so! But better that than it making the sleep problems even worse. After 2 weeks the side effects settled down (drowsiness/heightened anxiety/panic attacks and sleep problems) and everything started to feel far more managable. Everyone is different but I think this is quite common. I'm still on 10mg and I plan to stay there unless absolutely necessary. It seems to be working for me at the mo. You can't know after 7 days if it's going to level out for you so stick it out a bit longer. And Id say it's better to take it in the morning rather than night especially if you have trouble sleeping but it's up to you. Hope it gets better soon x

Hi, crest I was that medication. I feel yucky before they got into my system, then, they made me feel drowsy . Hope this helps.

Dear right mess in progress.

I was one of the lucky ones and had no side effects from Citalopram. However, I was taking a higher dose and taking a tablet both morning and evening and they are always better with or after food.

I guess some people must manage on just 10mg but the people I have come across personally have always been on 20mg.  You need to persevere and try taking it for at least 2 weeks before deciding it's not for you and returning to your doctor who may in fact decide that you should continue with it but give you another pill to take alongside it.
