Citalopram how long do you persist with side effects?

I started on citalopram 20 mg 2.5 weeks ago and have had a foggy feeling, confusion and difficulty in concentrating I am no longer driving and so the situation is quite upsetting.

I have been prescribed them for depression due to a relationship breakup.

Is it worthwhile me persisting with these? after still having these effects or time to try something else?

Hi ya I'm 7 days into taking 20mg... Did u have the foggy feeling b4 taking the meds as its a symptom of depression?.. I have had it constantly for 3 weeks I've done some research it seams like derealization and will pass when the depression is under control... I've had it many times b4 with depression but it always went away after a couple of weeks. This is my first time on meds after a complete breakdown over relationship problems as well... Google positive stories on citalopram as I found a lot of bad stories with a normal search which makes things worse... Keep on them as they can take up till 6 weeks till fully kick in ur half way there the side affects do suck tho I'm just hoping to wake up some day normal soon... If u arnt any clearer in a couple of weeks go bk to ur doctor u may need to go up till 30mg or even try a different med.... Hang in there hopefully we get a break through soon I'm here for a chat we will get through this

I have been taking these tablets for two months now and the first week was ■■■■! Side effects, mainly sickly feeling and I was convinced they were not going to work, you don't notice any sudden burst of mad happiness but you just feel better as time goes on, no anxiety the bad days gradually just go away, the feeling of being able to cope with everyday life again, happy, basically back to being as I was a long time ago! They just seem to take a long time to work or what feels like a long time, stick with them because they work, or they are for me! Good luck

thank you for your replies, I saw the dr again and he has swapped me to some others- Lovan.

I feel as though i am set back with the depression returning on the bad days.

I was feeling dizzy and anxious on the ciplopram after the 3 weeks.

Now sad again was hoping to start putting things back on track. I am going to consult with the gp again as dont think this is the answer.
