i am on 10mg and have been on it for around 6 weeks now, for the last 2 weeks i have felt emotionless, Kind of just feel like a zombie, not sure if its just the depression that is making me feel like this since i am still in the early stages of the medication and it will not be having itd full effect yet or if it is a side effect of the medication as my doctor said it could be either of the two? has anybody else experienced this on the meds and if so got ay idea how long it will last if it is a side effect of the medication?
Wish I could help. I'm the opposite on these tablets. My emotions at first are incredibly heightened. My anxiety goes through the roof as well. Sweating and shaking evened with it. I feel scared, upset, fearful. Wish i had bouts of calm as well. I'm taking It for anxiety though, so it maybe different for depression. If you didn't feel this way before and on,y now recognise it,mid say it's the medication making you feel that way. I've read all kinds and know it takes time at least 8 weeks. However it maybe worth having a word with your doctor if it's really concerning you. Sorry I can't be much help.
No profound insight for you unfortunately, but yes, I've been going through that off and on. It's hard to say if it is an intense feeling of depression, or I JUST-DON'T-CARE. Haha... it almost feels like something inbetween.
It definitely is a possible side effect. The "rule" is that they don't want you to feel depressed on a med, but they DO want you to feel.
If you feel distinct apathy toward most things you would have once cared about, I'd suggest considering something different after 12 weeks perhaps?
Since I have zero expertise, I hope someone can chime in!
Hi Lily,
i have been been on citalopram for nearly 6 weeks as well. For the first four weeks I was on 20mg and then gp put me on 40mg. I had times when I was feeling flat and after a couple of weeks of being on a stronger dose am having one or two better days. I also am beginning to feel less side effects. It seems to take different lengths of time to kick in for different people. It would be worth asking your go if it is worth upping the dose or changing to. A different medication although I chose the former as I could not face starting again from scratch.
take care
Brian
