hi everyone,
I've been taking citalopram for about 10 months now and it has stopped having the same effect, I keep having all the bad thoughts again and even self harmed. It's starting to affect my relationship and my work life. I went to the doctors a week ago to explain this but all they said Is I need more counselling which I felt wasn't benefitting me at all. I just got back off my holiday which I thought would help but my anxiety is back, I feel low and all I'm doing is sleeping and have a lack of energy again. I'm at a loss of what to do and just can't understand why it's just stopped having any effect.
If this has happened to anyone else please what did you do? Or any advice would be great as I don't know where to turn.
Many thanks,
Siobhan
Hello Shivvy, May I ask how many mg’s you are taking? You might simply need to go up, say for instance from 20 mg to 30 mg. or something like this. I’m just saying it “could” be something as simple and easy as that. I am kind of surprised the doctor didn’t suggest something like that for you, but you might already be on a higher dose. How have you been doing over the last 10 months, has the Cital worked for you until recently? You might need to change to another med. As with many meds, what works for one person, may just not work for another. There are many other good meds out there. There are other more knowledgeable people on this site, that have been on other meds that could help you in that area. This is a great forum with a lot of wonderful people with great advice, hang in there, you will be getting more responses here pretty soon. For me, I have been on Cital 20 mg for 3 years with no problem, and it continues to work for me.
I just ask for you to Try very hard to make those thoughts of harming yourself, to go away, I always say, there is nothing ever so bad that could cause you to hurt yourself, no-one, no situation, nothing is ever so bad...ever. Try your hardest to push those thoughts away. You are a beautiful human being, you are not a mistake! God does not make mistakes! You are worth everything to a great many people on this earth!! We might get broken sometimes, and that is why we have...thankfully...places like this to come to, to help us through these times! We are here for you, we don’t judge anyone, we understand, as most of us have either been through, or are going through the same things as each of us are going through. So, all I can ask is, for you to hand in there...keep posting, and like I said, you will be getting more responses from others that will be able to give you some great advice!! I wish I could give you more advice on the meds, but Cital is the only one I’ve been on, and I am lucky, it has worked for me.
In the mean time, I will keep you in my prayers, and send you a {{{{HUG}}}} as we all can use one of those now and then. Best of Luck to you!!
Hi Shivvy
talk to your doctor about Lexaproit is also an SSRI I changed from cit to Lexapro which is escitaiopram and had a seamless transition.it is a new and improved version of cit with fewer side effects. This is only a suggestion but it may give you another option. stay strong there is a way out of this hell and we are all here to help. Hug to you too.
I'm on 20mg as well and it has been working perfectly just all of a sudden I started to spiral down again. Yes I think I may just have to see my doctor again it's just so frustrating as I think sometimes they don't quite understand, which is why I came here. I'm so so happy that citalopram works for you and yes I think we all need to just find what works for us. Thank you so much for your reply its really made me smile and hugs to you too xx 🙂
