Citalopram or not ?

Hi.

This morning I was at work and I had a prolonged heart palpitation. It gave me a thump in my head like a blood pressure spike. Then I almost fainted but didn't faint. Lucky I work in a hospital so I had an ECG and blood tests which were all fine. I do suffer from palpitations but nothing like this one.

So I started a low dose of 5mg a day citalopram because of the IBS I suffer from. I've taken 5mg a day for 6 days now. It's such a small dosage does anyone think it might be the citalopram that's making me feel like this ? I'm also getting headaches too which I don't suffer from.

Hi Kim, Do you drink much caffeine as I do that gives me palpitations however not as significant as you have described, the citalopram will give you funny side effects one ofwhich is head ache although that didnt last long with me couple of days and it normalised however its varied keep positive

Sounds a lot like cit kim. I too had the same experience Monday at work. Thought I was going to faint. Had the nurse at work check me out. She called my doc and I was sent to ER. EKG and blood work all good. But I have been on 20mg for six months. I remember getting all your symptoms early on.

Yes it's the Citalopram. It'll settle down in time.

I'm seriously thinking of not taking anymore. if you see the tiny little half i take you would never believe its THAT making me feel like ive been through a wringer !!

Im trying to get an appointment with my cardiologist soon just to get these palps checked out again. It's just that had i been driving God knows what would have happened !

I also feel like i have the flu, my head throbs, I ache all over and im sooooooo darn tired. Could this REALLY be possible for a tiny half (5mg) per day pill????

I was off work for a month and a half. The side affects were overwhelming.

Gary...what were your side effects?

Hi Kim, The citalopram is a serontine uptake which increase's the neavousness activity so there will be headache and all sorts of adaption required until the brain adjusts it has taken me months to really feel better I still have slight tremors the most noticable side effect. In some people they adapt quicker others maybe longer however it will improve your depression, anxiety in the lonbg run just have to allow it to work and stay as positive as possible keep upbeat dont let yourself fall into the darkness it took years to really train myslef not too so I get what your saying hang in there my friend it will be worth it hope your side effects settle soon.

Undoubtedly it's the citalopram , it can mimic anxiety symptoms and these side effects can take time to go. I found guided relaxation CD s helpful and muscle relaxation .Google these if you need some help to practise these techniques.eventually the side effects will dwindle and go completely but try and ride the storm it's worth it once the medication takes effect.

Side effects were. Nausea, fainting sensation, confusion, extreme anxiety, panicky. Couldn't sleep and no appetite. List goes on. You can't give up on it though. It gets better with time

you and me both
