I started on 10mg about 4 weeks ago, had the usual side effects, loss of appetite, sweating, insomnia, felt really bad still (suffer from GAD) so my doctor upped my dose to 20mg and been on that for 3 days. Subsequently, I've been having really strange thoughts about death and where we are all going, leading to more panic attacks. Prior to this i was a happy 22 year old, however i feel that my GAD and subsequent thought processes are a result of my aunt passing away in december. we were very close. Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this if they've had these thoughts, not really suicidal just morbid thoughts...
Hey, it could just be that you're suffering more side-effects with the increase. It can sometimes increase anxiety for a few days, but it certainly would be worth letting your doctor know, just in case there's something else they can give you while you re-adjust. Also, have you thought about counselling? It sounds like you're grieving. Maybe talking to someone will help?
x
Yeah, contacted the university for counselling and waiting to hear back on another form of counselling through the doctors. Just feel fed up i guess... sick of shaking and feeling the way i do. Thanks for your reply x
You may be having side effects to the medication one react differently when going on I would suggest talking to your medical practitioner but at the same time seee Councelor for the grief
Having strange thoughts about death, meaning of life etc can be normal, but if it becomes excessive is usually a sign of depression/anxiety. Which is not surprising really if you were close to your aunt. Hopefully the citalopram should kick in soon, but 10mg is a low dose and most people need 15 - 20 mg to have any real effect.
You could be having stronger side effects than most people ususally would. I was put on these tablets after 7 years of anxiety, and unfortuantely suffered such severe Serotonin Syndrome, that I was hospitalised, and that was after only two days of taking half a dose.
