Citalopram withdrawal how do I come off it

I’ve been on citalopram 20 mg for over 10 yrs  apparently they were given to me because I suffer from stubourn bowels from birth which I have since found out can make it worse and have decided to wean myself off it with the help of my Dr I’m now on 10 mg  I started having head zaps after 5 days I’m still having them 11 days later but they haven’t gotten any worse, anyone have any advice on how long I should stay taking the 10 mg before I reduced my dosage again, I’m 65 yr old woman in reasonably good health I have an underactive thyroid and arthritis, any advice is very welcome

I was on those too I kept gaining weight and was on it for Fibro. Then I found side effects weight gain. I had enough. My doctor telling me to lose weight but it was impossible on those pills. I weaned myself off by missing a pill one time per week for maybe 2 weeks then skipped 2 for about 2 weeks I had plenty so I gradually did it on my own. I lost 20 lbs. but I had a bout of flu before that and lost 8 lbs. So it was easy to lose the whole 20. I feel whole again, more pain to contend with but I am thinner and have more energy. Just do it gradually you will be fine! I am 69 years old. Good luck to you! 💖

Hi Sheila, the head zaps happen when you reduce too quickly. I would wait until they disappear before you reduce again.
