Hi. I've been on citalopram since Feb this year (2017), firT of all a month on 10mg and now 2 months (almost 3) on 20mg. I started to feel a slight change for a little while, but now feel as if I am back to square one. I'm crying every day, lose complete concentration doing any activity and having as many panic attacks as I had before I began the meds. Does anyone know if this is normal and has happened to them? I am planning on returning to my doctor ASAP, but would like any extra advice. Thanks!
Hi I started on fluoxetine for six weeks, had similar experience, felt shocking, changed to citalopram, on now for four weeks, just starting to feel a little better. However the fluoxetine may have kick started my recovery but it was pretty awful to have these feelings. The first weeks were a struggle, but may have been the same if I had started on citalopram. Don't give up x
hi spookymeds7630 if you are not getting troublesome side effects from taking 20mg of citalopram then you can talk to your doctor about increasing to 30mg which may turn out to be a more suitable dose for you
if your anxiety is very intense you can speak to your doctor about taking an additional med alongside the citalopram, such as prazosin or propanolol
you have lots of options so try not to worry ok - you will be well again
I ended up being on 40mg for many years, and that worked well for me. Even though 20mg is considered the "therapeutic" dosage, I feel like it is often necessary for many to go to a higher dosage. Definitely discuss it with your doctor, but these things can take time, unfortunately. Hang in there and consider going up in dosage a little bit!
