Citalopram

Can someone help me me I’m on citalopram and I want lots off positives about this drug does it work ?I have been on 20mgfor 6 weeks and now I’m on 30mg and been on that for about 2 weeks now I just want someone to tell me I’m going to be feeling back to my happy confident self soon and I feel crap

I felt good effects after only 3 days 10mgs, 2 weeks in felt great but side effects were crushing so I stopped a week later. Had I not had bad side effects I would have stayed on as it knocked out my anxiety

Hi, my side effects left after about a week and a half/2 weeks and i started feeling better around that time too. Although sometimes i have blips but they only last a day. Ive been on 20mg for 7 weeks today. I am able to do more now such as go to work and im better able to deal with the depression and anxiety when it does try to overwhelm me

Yes it works - count your recovery in months, not weeks.  You need lots of patience and along the way you'll get setbacks (blips) which are quite normal (seems like your'e back at the beginning).

You can't hurry recovery - a higher dose doesn't mean you'll get better any quicker and you'll still get blips.  Go with what your body feels more comfortable on ..... that often takes a while before you find this.

Different doses suit different people and everyone has a different recovery time.  It took me 6 months - but some recover quicker than that, some longer.  Let it happen for you and try and go with whatever happens at the moment.  It gets easier.

The first few weeks / months are often the worst.  Stick with it, be patient and you'll come through it and back to yourself again.

Thanks so much means a lot do you no if I can take Melissa’s deam it’s a herbal remedy with lemon balm chamomile vitamins b1, b2 b6 b12 magnesium and niacin I’m also taking citalopram and propranolol do you think that over the above will be ok to take it’s just to help you find sleep that all it’s for

I've never heard of Melissa's Dream - but if its a herbal remedy only then I'm sure it can't harm.  I used to take herbals meds, B6 and other Vitamins when I took Citalopram too.  If in doubt its always worth checking with the pharmacist at your local Chemist just to be on the safe side.

Hang in there Sophie, I’ve been on it for years I’m now doing well and feeling ‘normal’ .  I’ve had a few blips on the way, I went up to 20mg  but I have very gradually weaned myself back down to 10,  You will get there try and stay positive, I know how difficult that is when you feel bad,

I was first treated with citalopram about 12 years ago and have been on it ever since. I have tried to come off it several times with or without the doctor. Each time I failed it was hell dealing with severe Panic attacks and I was back where I started as close to suicidal as it gets. So for years now I have lived a lovely peaceful on 10mg as my GP has advised me to stay on it as it is such a low dose. In my work in the army and police I saw far too many horrendous things for anyone to cope with. I can deal with that now thanks to citalopram.

Hi Sophie. It definitely does work!  I have been on and off them a dew times over the years and each time I get knocked by the side effects for a few weeks but eventually it all levels out. It will not take away all anxiety as that would be dangerous.  We still need our fight and flight mechanism to work to save us from danger but it will level out the unhelpful anxiety. Be patient and count the good days as they increase.  Hope you see an improvement soon. Mark x

Here it is

Great idea.  I aim to do the same thing myself eventually

It’s just what we have to do

In my work I have come across others in similar situations who have done the same thing

Well done 👍
