Hi all.
Not a big drinker more a social drinker and not been doing that alot recently.
Been on the tablets for 2 weeks and not seen any improvement in my depression yet caused from my marraige ending.
Last night i went out with a pal and had 2 pints of Guiness (wouldnt normally touch the sides}i was blind drunk and actually blacked out for a second and fell over outside the pub and sprained my ankle!!Really struggled to walk.
I know most medicines say do not drink but i always thought that was to excess,be intersted to know if anyone else has any similar experiences.
Was very depressed and at times suicidal, but now ive also got a sprained ankle...i would laugh if it didnt hurt so much!!
Hi Mick - Try and keep going with the tablets, I felt awful for the first 2 and not much better for the next 2 weeks but now I can really feel the benefits - still get down and sad but I can manage it (started taking Cit in September for same reason as you). I stayed off alcohol for a month and then started having 1 glass of wine about 2 to 3 times a week. First of all I felt incredibly tired when drinking but now I feel OK. I wouldn't recommend drinking if you feel emotional though because I think the alcohol magnifies this, better to only drink if you feel OK about everything.
Hope that helps, best of luck Ali
Thanks for the support Ali,hope everything is a bit brighter for you.
mick
Dear Mick and Ali
please could you let me know how you are feeling now. i 've been two weeks on citalopram and have never felt so bad in all my life, I am far worse than i ever was. i know you were both dealing with a break up. Do you honestly feel the citalopram helped or was it that you started to come to terms with the break up. I feel desperate i so badly want these tablets to work
Hello Beth - don't give up hope - Citalopram has helped me a lot. Unfortunately it can't change the person you are with and having the relationship difficulties with but it does help you feel stronger to deal with it. I think it allows you to perhaps step back a bit and look at how you can change your behaviour and react differently to situations. I am still in a very difficult situation which is just about to get far worse but I know the medication is helping. Try and stick with it, I would say that 4-6 weeks was the time when I started to feel a bit better. Please message me again if it helps. Take care and good luck Ali XX
Thank you so much for getting back to me. I'm just going to have to sit it out I long to be in that place where you can see your problems but can sit back from them. I so hope all goes well for you. Changing the way we think is a massive task but i'm told a worth while journey
