My husband is CKD 3, diabetic with hypertension. Recently had blood test done and the S. Creatinine is 171, his eGFR is 36, ALB/CREA ration 982.7, microalbuminuria 1280mg/L
We were planning to visit europe. It is a 9 day trip. Is it okay for him to travel? what precautions do we need to take. Doctor connected a 24hr ambulatory BP and the result is
daytime av 139/78.5
night time average 132.4/74
couple of times his BP went up to 170..

anusai, your doctor is the best person to answer this question. His BP seems good so that shouldn't present a problem flying. His Creatinine is very high - mine rose last week to 120 but it is believed to be due to a recent blood pressure tablet I was prescribed - a diuretic called Indapamide - which has now been stopped. It also caused my eGCF to worsen from 47 to 39. Could your husband's BP medication to be to blame as well?

Inspra (eplerenone). We do not know if that is causing the eGFR to come down. the tab has caused his potassium and creatinine level to go up but his microalbuminuria has come down. which is what the doctor said will happen.
Checking the net, we found this medicine is not good for kidney patients. We are so confused. Do not know if he can stop taking it for couple of months to see the result.
anusai, you haven't mentioned what your hubby's eGFR level is standing at, but certainly the Creatinine is very high. If the Inspra is causing that then it needs to be discontinued/changed for a few weeks and then get the blood tests repeated to see if thigs have improved. I am under a renal consultant - Is it not possible for your hubby to see one?
