Hi All
I recently found a lump in my groin which my doctor says is my lymph, he requested urgent blood test which showed a eGFR of 57 my BP is 149/93, I have to repeat the blood tests in a month, Im worried as Im only 26 and the things I read are not very positive, if anyone can help I would much appreciate it as Im really worried. Thank you in advance.
I don't think a gfr of 57 is stage 4
Hi regarding CKD stages, this is from patient view, where they will let you see your blood test results on the
NHS
30-60
Moderately severe kidney damage. This is known as Stage 3 CKD
15-30
Severe kidney damage, Stage 4 CKD. Anaemia and bone disease become common problems as kidney function drops below eGFR 25.
below 15
This is known as Stage 5 CKD. An average figure for commencing dialysis in the UK is 8 to 10, but
this varies a lot - lower in some people, higher in others.

Hi...
Carbonated mineral water is not harmful., excerpt from The Mayo Clinic
In reality there's no good evidence that carbonated water causes harm to your bones. The confusion may arise because of research that found a connection between carbonated cola drinks and low bone mineral density. But this association wasn't seen with noncola carbonated drinks. So if you like the bubbles, you can keep sipping your carbonated water.
If you're open to trying other types of water, there's some promising research that mineral waters with calcium may actually benefit your bones.

hi
I have been diagnosed with ckd stage 3, i am 34 years old. The raeson i went to the doctors to begin with was severe pins and needles/ tingling in my hands, feet and lower legs. I am still waiting to see the nephrologist, but have had scans of my kidneys in preperation. I wanted to ask though does anyone one else suffers these symptoms as the last week or two its become increasingly worse, and i have a constant pain also in the right side of my back like someone is kneeling on my kidney. I have booked to see my doctor again on monday as my hospital appointmet is not untill end of april but am unsure if they will do anything as i have low blood pressure.

Hi Laura
I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with CKD3 - do you know what your eGFR reading is? If it is only a little below 60 then many doctors say it isn't a cause for concern.
Have you been tested for diabetes as that can cause pins and needles. Untreated it can also cause kidney problems.
If you doctor felt concerned, I would have thought he could have got you a more urgent appointment with the nephrologist than wait until the end of April.
Hope you get some reassurance at your GP appointment on Monday.
Hi
Thanks for your reply, my gfr is 45 the reason my appointment is end of April is that the doctors referred me to a urologist by mistake hence the delay but they are currently trying to bring my appointment forward. I have been tested for diabetes on numerous occasions but I keep coming back clear
Laura x
Hello again Laura
I assume the diabetes tests have been fasting ones and not just the finger-prick test. At least your eGFR reading of 45 is still well within the CKD3 range. Mine is 47 but I am a lot older than you and with just one kidney. Blood pressure monitoring is important too. I hope your appointment comes through soon so that you can have the reassurance of an expert - meanwhile, drink plenty of water and go easy on the salt. Lots of good luck wishes.

My sister is said to have stage 4, but has no symptoms, besides tiredness. They went by her bloodwork. She does not want dialysis. She is older, 81, but still..... How r u now?
Hi,
I'm 28 years old and have CKD stage 4 disease. I have a 1 year old and prior to having him was at stage 1. I would really appreciate someone to talk to in a similar situation.
Sorry to hear this Pat-58. My Mum is stage 5 but only found out 5 weeks ago and they say she is too risky for dialysis. It does feel like a lot of overwhelming info, we feel the same. Make sure you catch up with your GP, you kidney specialists and nurse specialists and keep asking them questions about what you can do. Be fully informed so you can make a good decision for yourself. Take care
I am from USA, never heard of the baking soda here. My sister is in stage 3, is stable, but has many other problems. She is 81, but has always been active. Now she has weakness in her legs. Doctors here passing the buck, see this specialist, that specialist. She cannot afford it. I am taking her to her Primary doc, and I am demanding she do some basic tests, then if something odd ifound, we will take the next step. You sure have to be your own advocate with these doctors. Hope all of you are doing well.

Hi,
I have had 4, 5 been on dialysis and have recently had a transplant I am not a doctor nor am Imedically trained but I have been through the mill lol and come out the other side still fighting. I would be happy to talk to you about my own experience just remember we are all different so what has happened to one through the stages may not happen to you.
Hi Deb, I'm also on Stage 4, only 6 weeks ago I was Stage 2 eGFR65 now I'm eGFR 30. It's a merry go round this disease, as even though my results have plummeted I feel fine I really am not ill at all even though I see the Renal team tomorrow I'm a bit apprehensive because I might after start dialysis. I hope not though. Anyway I see your post was over a year ago so how are you now? Well I hope.
