This is my first post on this site, I am recently diagnosed as having coeliac,
I am wondering if anyone can clarify something on my biopsy report that I got back, as I am a little confused.
The comment made was:
In the correct clinical and serological setting, the features are consistent with coeliac disease. Clinical correlation and exclusion of other potential causes such as NSAID use, is required.
This last sentence is what has me confused, as my GP has told me I am coeliac.

It just means that there were features in your examination that means you have coeliac disease if your symptoms fit (correlating symptoms with physical examinations) and there is no other cause.

Sorry, no other cause for what the examination showed, for example NSAID use.

Well, you are in for a ride. I am glad to meet you and I am glad that so many use this site to communicate about our disease. I'm not a doctor. I am a patient - a patient of one of the three leading Celiac Specialists. We've learned a lot together. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be tested. We know that inflammation can trigger our autoimmune disease. For instance, I can go into a Celiac attack if I ingest soy - why? I am allergic to soy. ingesting it causes inflammation - inflammation triggers my Celiac. The sickness symptoms only last a week. If I am actually glutened it lasts 6-weeks; almost to the day. So will we find that anti-inflammatory drugs ultimately help? Perhaps - for now, it is simply a guess.
At the point of your biopsy, they didn't know if you had coeliac disease so it was to confi diagnosis... That all. It sounds like you do have it so don't worry about the report. It's just exclusion of other causes for your biopsy appearance. Ie long term NSAID use can cause bowel inflammation as well as stomach inflammation.

I was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity/possible celiac, by a general doctor. I have all the symptoms, especially the terrible rash, for over 25 years and never knew. I went to dermatologist after dermatologist but none could figure it out. I need a celiac specialist. Are any that you mentioned in California? If so, could you pass that information along? Thanks
Rather than give a specific name I suggest you contact the Palo Altoona Medical Center. If you specify gastroenterology and Celiac they will get you to the right people. Do not lose heart. I was 59, seemingly in perfect health, a Fitness Professional and body builder on absolutely NO ENHANCING CHEMICALS OR EVEN VITAMINS. I suffered a massive heart attack and was given up for gone. Emergency surgery and 8 stents later the previously undiagnosed Celiac raised its ugly head. We understand and YOU WILL MAKE IT WITH THIS! Bundles of hugs!
