Clicking feeling at front of thigh

I have had my left hip loint replaced 3 times the lst two because I broke the implants playing golf. My consultant told me it was OK to carry on playing so I did, however I have detected a clicking type feeling with my fingers. This feeling is towards the front of my thigh about level with my groin. Is this going to be connected to my hip again or could it be something else???. I have stopped playing until I see the consultant.

Dear Brian

That to me is amazing because I thought they were very robust. What part broke? Golly the amount of heavy work and twisting I've done on mine beggars belief. Like the hundreds of violets size wheelbarrow loads of concrete I've mixed and narrowed and then laid etc. Perhaps I was just lucky and it's now run out!

Cheers Richard

hi brian,

warm welcome to this hippies forum ...

oh dear, that is terrible --- why did it happen since the surgeon gave you the green light?

I am not sure what to tell you - I am assuming that your femur broke and needed to be repaired twice (total of 3 times) and that is what you feel ....

When do you have your appointment with surgeon?

be careful now and let s know how you are doing, okay

big warm hug

Richard/Renee The first break was at the top of the implant just behind the head on the corner or what should be the strongest part of the unit, I have had no explanation for that. the Second break was toward the bottom of the shaft and I was told that it was caused by the cement at the top of the femur coming away which cause the whole thing to flex on the bottom inch or so which eventually gave way..  My worry with this clicking feeling is that the cement has come away again and its only a matter of time when the thing breaks again.. My Appointment is the 24th May. My specialist has never heard of anyone breaking a implant before let alone 2 and looking round the net I cant find anyone either..OK I weigh 14 stone but I dont launch myself violently onto my left side in my golf swing and hundreds of golfers have had the hip replaced  I must just be unlucky..

Dear Brian

Thank you for taking the time to explain. First thoughts are why did your surgeon use cement as I thought that went out years ago and was only used when the stem was inserted into a badly sized hole which could be as the result of bad bone or careless workmanship.

Anyway a bad situation to be in and rather suggests that you will have to avoid stressing your prosthesis once it is again revised.

Good luck

Richard
