This may be out there, but has anyone experienced RA symptoms in their throat?

For the last week I've had a clicking in my throat when I swallow. Initially I thought it may be swollen lymph nodes (my son had a horrible head cold last week). But I have not gotten sick, so now I question wether or not that is what it was.

I did see my Rheumatologist today for my wrist which was in unbearable pain. I mentioned my throats and she said there is a bone in the throat that could be affected by RA. But she said it was very uncommon.

Has anyone's else experienced this?

Hi Jane, not in my throat but definitely my jaw. Can't open my mouth when it happens (every cloud, eh?) Hope you get some relief soon. Carol x

Hi jane when u say ur jaw i just had it there at weekend u cant yawn mines was at left hand side at ear would that be right by god its sore when i press side of jaw can still feel it tho its wore of a good bit...i get ot under chin as well at times so can u get RA in ur face or head its all over my body noe knee feel like there both broke ankles hands are just like balloons with swelling pure fed up with the lot of it but it aint going to go away...

Hi Bob, no it's not going to go away. It's difficult coming to terms with, isn't it? How long have you had it? When I was first diagnosed about 4 years ago, I would chat with a colleague and compare notes. She would also get it in her jaw. Are you able to contact your rheumatology team during a flare up ? You sound like you're suffering at the moment. Carol

Yes i too suffered from it once and only once in my throat and I know how unpleasant and scarry it can be.

It was when i first became aquatinted with RA and was waiting to see rheumy for 1st time ever. Was being treated for mild arthritis in wrist which resulted in RA covering 90% of my joints. Had everything. From neck down. Most joints, eyes and yes, my throat. In the throat is cartilage. It was this that became inflamed. The only way i could swallow was to look right on the point of swallowing. Imagine the looks i got in mid conversation! Anyway i copied got the meds i needed and never had it there since. (20 years and counting). But i never forget it. Great talking point sometimes. Some folk thought i was talking to an imaginary friend. Take care and take heart..It will go. Eyes? You got it in your eyes! Blimey, this forum is  great for learning and that's definitely a new one on me. Hope I don't find that one out first hand.

Yes in my eyes. Don't get too alarmed. More common than you think. More annoying than anything else. Doesn't last long. Bit like feeling of sand or grit in your eyes. Apparently got eye drops for it. Any welder who experiences mild flash will know what i mean. Honestly no big deal. All the best. Ian.

Hi there,

I get really sore and swollen lymph nodes in my throat. I cant even swallow my saliva or eat without causing to much pain. I do get clicking in my jaw but not in my throat.
