Hi, Just wondering if using the steroid ointment causes any wait gain or if there are any other side effects others have noticed. I just want to be prepared. Thanks.
I find my weight much easier to control. But part of that was the stress of the disease initially and then also because I've reduced my sugar intake so much. (I still slip back into old habits sometimes!). I have lost a nice amount of weight.
I use a weaker steroid than clob but I think if you adjust your diet to reduce inflammation, you are more likely to lose weight.
I don't think ointments cause weight gain. It is the oral steroids. I have actually lost 10 lbs from cutting out sugar and gluten.
Thank you for the information. I hade read that even the ointment can get absorbed into the bloodstream like the oral steroids. Probably extreme cases.

Please use the steroid ointment sparingly. It doesn't cause side effects. The only thing it can cause is thrush if you use it long term. That is why sparingly is the magic word. Regards. Jan

I started noticing hair loss when I took that Clob. steroid. I looked it up and discovered that that can be a side affect. But I was also under a lot of stress, so that could have been the reason for the hair loss. To be safe, I discontinued the steroid.

You're going to be using the tiniest dose. Almost none is absorbed into the bloodstream. There's no point in researching the side effects of oral dosages. Whole other ball game.
Yes, there are people who use tubs of cream on vast extents of skin. Most of us here are using it on a few square inches.
Hair loss is another symptom of lichen planus so may not be due to the steroid ointment. I have a crossover between lichen sclerosus and lichen planus which causes all sorts of unpleasantness! I have hair loss too, which I think was stress related and came on at the same time as I developed lichen sclerosus. These are all related to auto-immune system problems and I think that once you have one condition, you become more likely to have others.
