hi I have had a crooked nose since birth, my nose has never given me much trouble but for eight months I have had chest pain caughing yellow, green and a few times blood. Anyway the chest X-ray three times has come back clear but since December I have had the same stuff come out my nose. I have been prescribed 9 rounds of antibiotics in 9 months. I finally got a new dr and he said he did not see any infection on the xray just cloudy. I asked him what that meant and he said dr like to see blue sky's. So he is refuring me to an ent. What does cloudy mean and can post sinus drip be causing my chest pain?
Hi Pam I hope your feeling better soon, I went to my gp with a thumping in my left ear after being perscripted tablets and nasal sprays to clear it up I was then referred to ent as they didn't seem to make a difference,the ent doc said he saw a dullness in my ear which I then had to have an MRI, 2 weeks later I got my results and thankfully my ear was completely clear although something showed up behind my nasal space so had to wait another 2 weeks to get an endoscopy under anisetic but thankfully it came back clear too so please don't panic as I did for nearly 8 weeks docs must check everything thoroughly and although the thumping in my ear is eased a lot it's still there at times but iv learned to slow down as I tend to rush about and take a lot outa of myself I do suffer from seasonal allergies too which I think is the main problem,
I to have pulsatile tinnitus, omg that can be annoing the only blessing with that is no pain. So what is a endoscopy did they put you to sleep? And did it hurt.? I have already had a xray and full head ct. Hopefully I won't need anything major done. Right now I am on 10 days of levafloxin I really did not want to take it but the dr insisted.
Hi Pam, I've just replied to your post about taking Levofloxacin and then I saw this post. If your doctor says he didn't see any infection why on earth has he given you such a strong antibiotic? I would have to say if there is no infection than there is absolutely no reason to take the antibiotic - especially one with such risks attached to it!
At the time when he called me in I still had not taken them, I was tested for tb and that came back normal. I don't get why dr don't take samples, I even brought one in on my own and the dr just said throw it away. I live Canada I think the uk actually would have tested my sample. I have even have maggots in my nose sorry to gross you out but I froze them and brought them in and the dr did not seem to care I cared we don't have flies yet. Well anyway I also had cloudy urin, pus and blood lots in the morning and was caughing up green, yellow and blood that was very painful for months.
I I said to him so I don't need the drugs then right hopefully the ent he was sending me to could clear this up without medication. He said no keep taking it, keep doing sinus irrigation and take the steroids. So anyway in pain I reluctantly took them. Today is day three still have yellow pus and blood but it is dryer my chest does not hurt so bad this morning, maybe I am getting better.
i have to be careful what gets into my lungs because I have copd, I will keep you informed of my outcome. Thank you for your concern believe me when I say I was really scared to take them, I even said that to the dr.
Hi Pam, if the doctor would read about Levofloxacin he would see that he should never prescribe steroids or NSAIDS with it or any other flluoroquinolone! Don't take the steroids with Levofloxacin as they can (and will) exacerbate the adverse reactions. The Canadian Health Authority recently announced they were increasing the warnings about FQs in the same way that the FDA did last year.
There must be a different antibiotic you can take, with all your present problems you don't want to be floxed as well. Have you seen Floxie Hope? Lots of advice and info on there.
I thought that just meant oral steroids. I take inhaled for my lungs and Flonase for my nose.. I looked it up on web md and it showed no interations. But like you I asked the dr and he said it would be fine. But to be on the safe side I will skip the steroids till the levafloxin is finished and just do the nasal rinse.
An endoscopy is were the surgeon puts a tube with a camera on the end of it up your nostrils to check for any abnormalities yes I was put to sleep it wasn't too sore just one side felt a little uncomfortable I have a deviated septum too
I was really hopping not to be put to sleep. Did the dr offer any other suggestions. I really don't want surgery. Also are they going to fix your deviated septum?
I don't think they are Pam after I had the endoscopy done a surgeon came round to say that there was nothing abnormal in my nasal space and I could go home later that evening I got a letter to give to my gp and that was all I never got a follow up appointment that was 3 weeks past and I havnt heard anymore.
I think they can do an endoscopy under local annisetic it only takes 5 /10 mins
That kinda sucks so they did nothing to fix your problem. The only good side to that is you did not need the surgury.. I just watched one being done on you tube and well it looks painful.
Yeah it's a very painful operation I think if it's not bothering me il just leave it,I hope you get some relief soon xx
Hi Pam, yes, I did mean oral steroids and I have no idea if inhaled steroids make a difference or not. If you're going to continue taking the Levo just be sure to watch out for any sign of pain anywhere really. Also bear in mind that somepeople finish thier course thinking that was ok then get a tendon tear or rupture some weeks or even maybe months after. One guy I know had no symptoms until he took Ibuprofen (a NSAID) about a year later then all his symptoms kicked in. I repeat, I'm not trying to scare you but I am telling it like it (unfortunately) is.
Hi thanks again for your concern this day four of the levofoxem and I still have a lot of yellow discharge and some blood when I blow, about 1/2 tsp. Chest left lung still a bit sore. Urin still cloudy. I was hopping I would be feeling much better after the third day. Is this drug not supposed to cure anthrax?
It is, it kills anthrax and most other bacteria although it's not very good against e.coli and a few others. It also kills (or rather damages and prevents replication of) our own mitochondrial DNA. These are the organisms in every one of our cells that produce energy - it's how we do what we do! If enough of them are damaged and they can't replicate then we simply can't function how we used to. There's loads of info about it. This is why the doc should do a culture - to make sure you're given the most effective antibiotic(ABx). Better to get it right first time!
You said you've had 9 lots of ABx in 9 months - are you sure you weren't given Ciprofloxacin during that time? I ask because that behaves in the same way and the effects are cumulative. If you keep taking the Levo, be sure to stop if you get any pain at all, and you would be best not to take either Levo or Cipro (or other FQ) again in the future.
No I have z packs also known a zithromiacin, amoxacilion clavin that put me in the hospital, reg pennacilin no ciprofloxacin or this family of drugs. I read up on all of them this is the first. Before 9 months ago I never even had a cold for ten years and it was a mild head cold that lasted less than a week.
Day 5 lots of discharge this morning, more orange than just yellow. I guess that's what you get when you mix red blood will yellow. Did te Basel rinse to get as much as I coul out. Woke with a bit of chest pain but not caughing up anything for three days.
i also had to leap out of bed half way threw the night with a Charley horse, resolved quickly. I also slept in an exra 1/2 hour I usually take the levaloxaxin at 7 but did not fet to take it till 7:30.. So what do I do tomorrow take it at the old time or new time?
I I am still so stuffed up I just can't stand it. I really hope the risks of this drug produce a good outcome, or it was all just a waste.
Day six not as much discharge some clear now a golden yellow color as to its usual baby duck yellow color. Still blood and some not as much. I had really bad chest pain last night, coughed up dome green flem and felt tons better. Just slight chest pain this morning a bit of burning. I am making a batch of ionic silver I have never used on my nose wondering if that would help or would conflict with the Levafloxin, I could put in my sinus rinse, if I did would I still add the saline?
Good morning day seven, woke some sinus discharge about 1/8 th of a teaspoon a small blood clot, but mostly clear. Very faint chest pain. I am getting ready to do my caughing and breathing exercises after my coffee.
i miss calcium, my hemp milk and sesame seeds, magnesium, the sun or vitamin d3, my inhalers, not being able to run or jog everyday. I do take the dog for alight walk 5 time a day now she lovin that., but just around the block.
well I have an apt in June to see the ent, they Also have me on a cancellation list, I hope to get in earlier. Long story short still got sinus infection it seems and a tad congested in the lungs. Not sure if this was worth all the trouble. Only three days to go and I read levafloxin stays in your system for 30 to 40 hours after you stop taking it.
