Clunking noise from hip

I had my second hip replaced end of April this year, and it's been ok, but it feels as if it's taken a long time to feel 'normal'.

My other hip replacement is now 10 years old and has been 'clunking' on and off for a few years - no pain, and no-one else could hear it, so I ignored it.

Now my old hip is clunking so loudly that people can hear it, and it's making me limp on the new hip.  It doesn't hurt, exactly, but it's making me walk funny, and it's making my new hip ache.

I will make an appt with my consultant, but I wondered if anyone else has had this experience?

Feeling a bit fed up to be honest.  Just when I was starting to get my mobility back.....

Yes, you have solved one problem only to find another one. I think you are right to go and see your consultant, he may be able to stop things getting any worse

Hi there.

my hip is just 2 1/2 years old and has been clicking for a few weeks.  Like you it doesn't hurt but I do think that it is making me lip a bit.   Hmm!  Wonder about seeing the consultant???

I know - you don't want to feel as if you're making a fuss

I saw my consultant today, and had both hips x-rayed.  The new one (April 2015) is great, no problems.

The old one, 11 years old last Oct, is a bit of a problem.  The ceramic head has worn and pitted, which accounts for the loud clunking and the feeling of grating I feel when I stand and bend from the hip slightly.

However, the stem is solid, which is excellent new.

So my consultant plans to 'service' my joint with a new bearing, and some sort of plastic coating. I really did feel like I'd gone to KwikFit....

Part of me feels really fed up that I'm going to be laid up this year again - I'm told to expect recovery to be just the same as another hip replacement op - but another part of me thinks that now I will have both hips 'the same age' as it were.
