Cochlear Implants. Hearing aid and intracoclear prosthesis

A cochlear implant is a device which helps improve the hearing abilities of many profoundly or totally deaf people by electrically stimulating the auditory nerve (the nerve of hearing). In the UK, there are about 900,000 people with severe or profound hearing loss, and more than 45,000 deaf children.1See separate Deafness in Children article.
