So I've been doing a lot better recently with managing my anxiety. I've been on prozac 10mg for about 2 and a half weeks now and thinking about going cold turkey because A. I think it might be giving me side effects (Dizziness mainly, feeling as though the floor is moving up and down). I know anxiety can cause this but I have seriously reduced my stress levels through meditation, walking etc. and B. I'm concerned about SSRI drug interactions. Has anyone gone cold turkey and experienced relief from side effects? if so how long will it take? I'm pretty sure I can do it just because I haven't been taking it that long, it's a fairly low dose and I'm mentally a lot better. appreciate any advice :-) peace and love
I hated Prozac. Just because of the side affects you are describing. Lexepro much better choice. Effexor or even Celexa don't have those side effects and work just as well. I am also on xanex which helps me get over the intitualjitters in the morning. Remember doctors get kick backs from drug companies when they push specific brands on the patients. So don't be a lab rat. No need to feel dizzy when lot of other meds available. Lexepro is my choice. Effexor and Celexa also had good effects.
Don't go off your drugs. Talk to your doctor. He may have other options for you. Why not read the bible and see if it will reduce the anxiety.
Tone down with the bible stuff please. Uve put it in every post
Moira, everybody deals with this differently. I am sure Gmathew believes it's working for him therefore he shares with us in good faith. But that's not how this works. Music works for some, insense and yoga for others. Not my case though. I can't focus during my attacks to read the Bible or even a simple hallmark card. I just want to curl up in a little ball and make the world go away. Point is, what work for some does not work for us all, but I am sure he means well. We should all continue writing on this board as it gives me a focal point to help others and learn from others. I totally get it, the nature of this beast gets us all down and makes us miserable. But communicating what works for each of us may help others even if we done agree with it.
You're right. Just a bit p****d off. What helps me is... It's not meditation but different ways of controlling breathing etc. Give it a go and let me know how u get on. I just don't no how reading a passage from the bible will make this crap go away

Hi David you will be fine going off Prozac after 2 weeks you haven't been on it long enough to cause withdrawal.
To each their own. Bible verses or breathing techniques don't work for me but losing myself writing on this post calms me. Weird right ? I don't judge, I will try anything. Just reading bible is not practical during an attack as I can't focus to read or anything or breath during attack. I get to my nearest xanex, pop a pill and wait for the calm to restore itself. Maybe I will learn new coping skills but the reality is I am 47 and hard to teach old dog new tricks
Marleen, Ross started this post not me. I never liked Prozac and switched to something more suitable for me. Ross is the one going cold turkey. Just wanted to clear that up. Lol
Sorry David.
I would probably ask your doctor, or some kind of professional, just to be on the safe side, but I don't think you'll have developed any kind of serious dependence after only a few weeks on the medication. Managing your anxiety without medication is ideal, but for some people it's necessary. Part of the reason you could be experiencing these symptoms is that your body hasn't become acclimated to the medication yet. SSRIs often cause these kind of sensations when you first start them, for many people the symptoms subside within a month.
