Colitis diagnosis, 5 month wait

After a colonoscopy in October I was diagnosed with Colitis, waited over a month for biopsy results from Gp, who then lost the document so she couldn't fully read the report ( very frustrating) So still not really sure completely what was show during test apart from colitis was mentioned.

I received a letter for an appointment in March to the gastroenterology department, 4 months feels like a long time I'm having to wait for results or to talk to someone about this.

How long have other people had to wait after being diagnosed to see a doctor? Is this a normal amount of time.

Hi Kerry

I can not understand why you should have to wait this long for an appointment, We waited about 2 weeks, then we got a hospital appointment within 2weeks.

It might be helpful to go through PALS liasion to speed it up a bit

                                               Good luck,wish you well

So presumably you've not started on any meds? I was started on meds immediately following my first colonoscopy which showed my proctitis and had a hospital appointment about 3 weeks later to discuss the diagnosis more fully. Telephone the endoscopy unit to get a copy of the report and also find out which consultant you were booked under and go through their secretary.

good luck

I would phone the secretary of the consultant you had the preoceedure with. Explain what has happened and ask is it possible that either someone can ring you to have the results discussed on the telephone or perhaps request that a report is reissued to the GP.We waited a month to be told the biopsy results by the consultant and Christmas was inbetween the proceedure and the follow up appointment so that was fine.
