Just been prescribed these, anybody been on them? X
Yes, I have been on them since Thursday. I am on them for gas in my abdomen, not bowel issues although I'm sure they're making me constipated, which is causing more pain! Was on colpermin before that and they caused minty diarrhea!!!
Thanks Vicki! I ve read up on them and feel confident. I ve suffered terrible ibs d since I had food poisoning in Portugal last year. Hoping these help get life back to normal x
I have been in colofac for a long time though deal the symptoms like pain and wind but they do not really stop diarrhea, they work by relaxing the muscles of the colon which in IBS go into overdrive . I also sometimes additionally take buscopan which are really good for pain but in relaxing muscles too much it stops the normal digestive process and canb lead to constipation
Thanks for reply Jon. I appreciate your input. I ll give them a go for a while. This was my first time going to my doctors for ibs so hoping I will feel a positive result. I would love to live a normal life again without sheer panic of finding a toilet! 😂 x
OK now I have seen your reply to vickie about food poisening has your doctor done any tests on you to check you have not got a deep seated infection, or that in fact you have an alergy . IBS is supposed to be a diagnosis of exclusion, has doc done stool samples , maybe a colonoscopy. when I had a colocscopy I was terrified because of them maybe finding cancer whoich they didnt but I didnt realise they can identity all sorts of allergies and other things that are solvable
Jon, I done a lot of research over the year and came to conclusion it was ibs. Doc done a few stomach exams and a lot of questions, they ruled out what tegu could. Doc reckons it's a def case if ibs d. I am still on a learning curve as how to deal with it so really appreciate all comments x
OK so then we get onto diet do you know of things that set it off
Yeah, I ve leavened to know most triggers. I am blessed with having a good metabolism and always having a healthy weight. I have Defo helped myself by eating smaller meals. If I have a large meal my ibs flares up so I no longer do that 👍
What ever it is, read and find out the side effects, and ask your doctor if you can take a probiotic before taking this med. Be Blessed. Read up on the probiotics also, and make sure you get them from a health food store or herbalist.
I was put on Mebeverine years ago when I started with IBS with a dosage of 3 per day before meals but three per day eventually made me very constipated so I cut them down to two per day and they have helped the IBS tremendously together with Esompeprazole twice per day.
However, I've just found out that Mebeverine is now difficult to get hold of, so my doctor has replaced it with Colofac which she says is the same as Mebeverine.
As I'm still using my Mebeverine up, I can't comment yet on whether Colofac IS as good as the Mebeverine. I hope so as I really don't want to go back to the pain of IBS.
i think Coilofac which I take is chemically excatly the same as meberverine ie it is meberverine using the trade name colofac. I take Colofac Modified release 2 a day but when the pain is severe I add busciopan but too much of that definately causes constipation as over relaxes the colon and thereby stops peristalsis so stuff does not pass through the system
I was put on these just over a week ago, they have made my last episode of diarreah & vomitting less violent (i'm usuallly on the loo with it gushing out of both ends in extreme pain for 6 hours at a time but since having these tablets i'm able to get on & off the loo which is an improvement) but that's about it x
