I have my colonoscopy next week. I was told I could not have anything the eat the day before. Just broth and jello, I was told by people at work that they had a light breakfast (eggs) and light lunch the day before test and they where cleaned out. Has anyone had a light breakfast the day before prep with a light lunch and was cleaned out for the test the following morning? Thanks Mindy
Hi
I would try to eat light foods as "what goes in, has to come out!"
You should of got a list of foods that are recommended.

Hi, I did colonoscopy around 10 days ago. I ate soup without ingredients as breakfast a day before. But some times I was drinking ice tea because I was getting black vision. I was clean for the colonoscopy. But nothing was found and every thing was normal. Anyway IDK what is problem with me.
I had to drink a solution for cleansing my bowels. I would use the word purging and I remember at 2am still being unwell so to be honest I was not in the mood to consume anything other than water.
PS It was called Macrogol
I drank loads of 7Up, the full fat version, ice cold.
I would be very careful of eating any kind of dairy the day before. But like Lizzie says what goes in must come out and also could make you open your bowels more. Good luck xx
This is an excerpt from the guidance from Guys Hospital it suggests light breakfast but definately no food after 9 .am on the day before otherwise you will not clear your bowel enough for them to see it cleared out after 9 only clear fluid
Preparation: One day before your colonoscopy
Eating and drinking
Have a light breakfast, such as boiled egg on toast (white bread), no later than 9am.
After breakfast do not eat any solid food until after your examination.
Drink clear fluids only today. This may include water, squash, fizzy drinks, clear strained soup or clear stock. Aim for two litres (about eight to ten glasses) in total throughout the day.
You can drink tea or coffee without milk
It is best to avoid alcoholic drinks.
Hi Mindy. Having had colonoscopies/sigmoidoscopies/endoscopies before, I would just follow EXACTLY what is says on your hospital's letter for preparation & don't deviate from it, or when you get there, they won't do procedure. I once had milk in my tea on the morning having misread the prep letter, & the fact I'd had a splash of milk in my tea resulted in them sending me home!. I felt such an idiot for misreading it, not to mention the money I'd wasted for a procedure slot, & building myself up to having procedure. xx
My doctor told me not to have tea or coffee on the day either.
Some people even start a light foods diet a few days before the prep.
You are not even allowed tomatoes, because of the pips.
Can you ring up the hospital and get some advice?
My main concern was "what goes in must come out".
I was surprised how much came out after not eating beforehand for a day.
Good luck xx
Hi Mindy,
Had mine yesterday. My instructions were: Saturday had light meals strictly containing NO fibre, so I had chicken and potatoes (no skin on potato), Sunday had light breakfast by 9:00am latest, I had 1 piece white bread toasted (no butter) with 1 boiled egg. That's it, strictly nothing else to eat all day Sunday, started my bowel prep at 2:30 in the afternoon.
I had endoscopy at same time, went in there worried to death after hearing stories from other people, came out wondering what I'd been so worried about!
Hope all goes well for you Mindy!

Thanks everyone. I think I will just have like a piece of toast just to kill the hunger pains you get in the morning then after that just jello, broth and popsicles!!
Hi Mindy
How did you get on?
