colonoscopy

A few years ago i had a colonoscopy, the day after i was in extreme pain, the doctor said i had wind. Later that day i went to hospital and was told yet again it was wind.My daughter had to pester them asking every day when was i going to have a scan and she was told i was not priority, 3 days after being in hospital i had a scan then taken to theatre,i had 37 clips in my stomach and was in intensive care for 6days.In hospital for 5weeks,nurse came to my home to take clips out and my stomach burst open, back to hospital then had to have a vacuum type contraption on the wound.I am not trying to scare anyone just want you to know if you experience extreme pain after colonoscopy go straight to hospital and demand a scan asap. They say it's highly unlikely this happens.

Hi Jennifer

what a sad story, and I am so sorry this happened to you.  I suppose this kind of thing doesn't happen often, but that's no consulation to you.  I hope you are fully recovered now.  I also hope that the reason for the colonoscopy in the first place turned out to be negative and they found no cancerous polyps.  However, poor you ended up in hospital anyway and had to have an operation that could have been avoided.

I expect anyone reading your story would think twice about this procedure but I hope this would not put them off having a colonoscopy, this is so rare and after all, it does seem this is the only way to detect if cancer is present.

I wish you well for the future, and hope you never have to face such trauma again

Margaret

Was it a perforated colon .  Hope you are well now. Mine was so bad I am thinking of having my colon removed. I have been told it would be a good idea as I have had 19 polyps removed but when I think about it I get scared. Good luck with your health

I had a colonoscopy today. It was quite painful .since coming home at tea time I've had diarrhea and it's now 11.35 pm and I've stomach cramps . But I'm so glad it's over with now.
