I am.on 300 mg venlafaxine and 15mg mirtazapine and interested to know people's experiences?
Also what experiences do people have with alcohol and venlafaxine?
hi ,, im on a slightly lower does of ven,,because of all the other medication i take,,,i have good and bad days,, atm im on antibiotics as well as all other meds being treated for pleuresy,,, last few days ive ben feeling rather sick,, tired,, and dont sleep much like it was before i went onto ven,,, BUT ,, i certainly wouldnt mix alcohol and ven,,, i havent touched alcohol for over 3 years n i did like me VODKA,,, dont really miss it though because due to my illness i dont socialise,, but please dont mix em,,, ven is a slow release drug and even if you dont take it one day the drug is still in the system,, please be careful,,, gentle hug

My experience with alcohol on Venlafaxine was that my cravings for alcohol increased tenfold. The Venlafaxine also stopped that horrible 'booze doom' after drinking too much which meant I drank even more. Not good.
I would be a little careful drinking on Mirtazapine as it causes extreme drowsiness as does alcohol. That's my info on the subject!
Im on 225mg and im meant to be on 15g of mertazapine but i take 30mg instead i have to buy the rest of someone .... But thats the only way i can get through my day x
I was put on mirt when I was in protracted withdrawal from ven, and the mirt couldn't hold up to it. My doctor reinstated the ven and within an hour I was "fixed." I have been slowly reducing both of them, but doing well. I'm down to 27.5 mg ven and 15 mg mirt. I sleep like the dead and have weird dreams on the mirt.
My doctor said the combo is known as California Rocket fuel, that the two together work better than each alone. Either way, these meds should not be used chronically, as I have learned, because long term use of ADs cause treatment resistant depression, not a relapse situation but caused by the drugs. I'd been on ADs for nearly 20 years, and see that I did indeed continue to have depression and have really poor memory, concentration, and some physical problems caused by long term use. Just a cautionary tale...
Betsy, I am interested to know where you information on treatment resistant depression came from. My knowledge of relapse depression that is resistant to treatment is that either you are not on the right medication or you need to augment your current medication and seek therapy that helps with the problems that make you prone to depression. I have had times where my depression has taken longer to disapate but eventually leaves with medication and therapy. Also, I work in the mental health field and have witnessed this many times. I am always interested in other perspectives. I am currently on Pristiq and have dropped off of the last 37.5 of Venalafaxine today.
I've been on 225mg venlafaxine with 30mg mirtazapine for over 6 years and it's been very effective. Last year I tried gradually reducing the mirtazapine with psychiatrist's agreement, but I had horrendous withdrawal effects and haven't tried again. Funnily enough I can miss the occasional part-dose of venlafaxine ( unintentionally) and not notice the difference. Venlafaxine is said to be the more difficult to get off. I stay away from alcohol because it makes me feel ill.

I also was told that the two together work much better than just the Venlafaxinen on its own but still waiting for the effect of them.both to work. I am hoping to feel more better than i am.
I do drink alcohol on them both but its my crutch for when i am struģgling. I know docs advise against it but not sure why so much. What probs can.it do. Xx
I take venlafaxine and, when I drink, I wake up with mild venlafaxine withdrawal symptoms.

It's called a "mixed state". Includes anxiety and depression at the same time. It's not a good feeling. Also "brain zaps" where your head just goes funny for a second.
Oh my i get those feelings alao. But for last two days felt so awful feeling faint, sick, funny head and dissorientated then realised 5pm that i hadnt taken.my Venlafaxcine, pregabalin and Apripiprozole .
Venlafaxine withdrawal is horrific. There are some good discussions about it on this site that you may find it interesting. I've commented because I tried getting off of it but the withdrawal is so bad that I can't.
Hi, I have just finished tapering off 225 mgs of Venlafaxine over 4 weeks. The taper was easy for me until the last 37.5 mgs. Once I dropped off the 37.5 I have been nauseous, headachey, and just not feeling great. Not terrible just not up to par. I am on 50 mgs of Pristiq and go up to 100 mgs tonight. Hard to tell if the effects are side effects from Pristiq or tapering effects from Venlafaxine. Everybody is different but I hope you will try again if you need to be off Venlafaxine. Take good care.

Hi Betsy. As far as i'm aware there is no research linking long term AD use to treatment resistant depression. Could you please post your source of this information as I can't find any research that supports your claim.
