Combo of Anxiety and Virus??

Hello all! I'm a 29 y/o healthy female. Recently have some symptoms thats making me a bit of a Hypochondriac!! It all started a month ago when I started getting a tight neck on the right side that triggered up to the back of my head. Went to PT and has helped but now it's back after this week's episode of whatever! Help thinking so much!!!

Day 1: Lightheaded spells, fatigue/drowsy, brain fog. Didnt think too much of it at first because I was on my period. All I wanted was to go back home to sleep. I never felt this way so of course I asked an online doctor which he said it's bad anxiety symptoms. I took half a tablet of a 20mg nadolol prescribed to me from my GI due to acid reflux about 8 months ago.

Day 2: Brain fog was gone but the head felt more stuffy. Still have lightheadedness but overall I felt better especially if I'm keeping myself active. I took another half tablet of nadolol. I was okay throughout the day but then night time I started feeling anxious about something again. Just felt like I have no control of my body.

Day 3: took a whole tablet of nadolol. Bad idea!!! I actually felt better with the head symptoms but developed heart palpitations through the entire day. VERY uncomfortable! I automatically knew it the nadolol did it to me because I took Omeprazole when my acid reflux was at it's worst and it did the same exact thing!

Day 4: I went to go see my doctor. Well, nurse practitioner since she was the only one available that day. Had some shortness of breath and feeling like there's deep chesty fluid kind of forcing me to want to cough. Physical checkup was good except some inflammation in the nose. Did an EKG that came back normal. Did a CBC and BMP as well. Metabolic Panel came back normal but I had a high neutrophils with low lymphs which the NP said it sounds like I caught a virus. I also got a chest x-ray which came back normal.

Day 5: I felt so much better! Just some dizziness/lightheadedness here and there. Still had this chesty fluid feeling but overall better.

Day 6: I felt better when I woke up but starting noon I started getting the anxious feeling again, head pressure, ear pressure. I was told it most likely is sinus pressure. It lasted until the evening and I started feeling better and did Afrin nasal spray. Can you have sinusitis without having runny/stuffy nose and no phlegm??

Day 7 (today): I feel better.with the chest stuff for sure. But I kind of have this tension headache feeling with the tightness deep in the base of my neck and a tender/sore spot on the back of my head. Same feeling of why I started going to PT. Instead of trying to think so much I took a little nap this morning. Seems to help my body relax. Still have some dizzy spells/lightheadness.

Anyone else have these symptoms??? I mean what in the world??? This is so uncomfortable to feel. Ive been told that a virus can cause anxiety symptoms. But this is just so crazy! Are these dizzy spells normal?? I plan on trying acupuncture on Monday to help alleviate the tension and anxiety. What else has worked?

I am right there with you. Having anxiety goes hand in hand with assuming the worst possible outcome. With that being said, you should definitely be in tune with your body and what’s normal for you. I think you’ll find, as I have most symptoms reside over time. Anxiety CAN intensify symptoms as well, since stress can often weaken our immune symptoms. Just be aware of your body and it’s responses and don’t overthink anything! The majority of the time, nothing’s majorly wrong.

Sorry I’m a little new to this. I’m not familiar with that particular medication but am very familiar with brain fog and sinusitis. Brain fog can stem from stress anxiety or WITHDRAWALS from a wide variety of medications. When my sinuses act up, it tends to affect my ears. Fluid build up in the middle ear can cause brain fog as well and an overall sluggish/sleepy feeling. Getting an answer from a doctor can often make us feel better...even if their diagnosis isn’t correct. Any “answer” can make us feel relief. Again though, just be aware of your body’s normal behaviors and don’t stress over little things—or look up symptoms!! Bad idea.
