Coming off hrt

hi I’ve been on hrt over 5 years my doc wants me to try coming off but I’m scared of a few of the symptoms. In particular vaginal atrophy/dryness. Changes in my breasts will they shrink ? Or become painful again. ? Mood swings ? I’m 58 and starting a new relationship so I’m worried about these type of changes for obvious reasons

Can anyone offer any advice please .

Hi julie,

Are you on natural hormones or synthetic? Drs don't want women on synthetic hormone replacement too long because of the risk factor. If you are on bio identical hormones and are healthy and being monitored by a doctor that runs regular testing there is no reason you should have to come off of them if your feeling well. I too am 58, been on bio identical creams for three years and plan to go to the pellets here very soon. I feel great and plan to carry on with my hormone treatment for the rest of my life to keep me healthy and happy. It does so much for bones, muscle and protective against an array of problems at this time in life. My intimacy is very important to me too. Loss of sensitivity, dryness and trouble reaching climax are all part of menopause issues that can be fixed if one so chooses. Its a personal choice. If you are on bio identical hormones and your doctor won't prescribe them anymore I would look for a doctor who understands safe hormone replacement in women and enjoy your new relationship. Good Luck.

Hiya thankyou, I’m on evorill  conti patches I don’t think they are bio identical . I accept the risks involved in taking it but don’t want to forever. If I can manage the hot flash symptoms I’m going to  request oestradiol internal treatment for the symptoms I describe. I suspect the decision will be taken out my hands soon anyway as my gps always give me a battle on continuing it.

What was your doctor's reason for come off of it?
