Coming on I leaps and bounds

on Friday I wrote that at 5 weeks I was suddenly able to do so many things all at once.  I too have been walking without a stick but doing the penguin waddle but here's the thing, when I can do something, I suddenly seem to be able it all at once.  So I have been asked by the physio to practice standing one just my operated leg and I just couldn't do it. Today I can do it and do it seemingly for a long long time, it just feels normal.  And suddenly, today, my walk has become nearly normal, no more limp.  How does that happen? I did tell myself this morning to practice making myself walk without a limp but by this afternoon my body has rediscovered normal walking - yay.  Now to see how far I can go with normal, stick less walk.

Hope everyone else is enjoying some new found abilities.

Laura

That's wonderful congratulations!!

Hi Laura - that's exactly what happened with me, I was told I was only "waddling" because I was not putting any weight on my operated leg. I started to do my leg extensions at the kitchen sink but did more on my operated leg and managed it quite well. It's as tho something clicks in the brain and you realise you can walk on both legs normally. It's only when I've been sitting a while and then stand up I revert back, or at the end of the day when I'm a little tired. I've been out in the garden most of the day without the stick and never really missed it. I've got to admit tho I haven't been brave enough P&P leave my stick when I take the dog for a walk... Maybe soon.....

hi laura

my physio did the same and got me to stand on operated leg and also to side walk along the worktops to strengthen the operated leg to eliminate the limp.  it certainly helps. x

I find I can go a good 1/2 mile without a stick but do find that the next day I get a lot of back ache so tend rest, I still cannot get down to kneeling as my other hip let's me know its not a happy bunny I am coming up for 9/10 weeks , just try not to over do it which we all so easily do xxxxx

Yes, I've noticed a bit of waddle returning this evening after going to shop without stick etc.  so, when a bit tired I guess it'll return. You're so right, it is as though something clicks in the brain.

I have a fold up stick, fits into quite a small bag. Insurance policy

Ah yes, I have one somewhere from before my op.  It was only cheap but I guess would be useful reassurance.  Thanks for reminder.

Oh now why didn't I think of that, I'd better get out and buy a couple as I'm bound to leave one if them behind somewhere, bit like umbrellas!!

I got 2 from Amazon, next day delivery, and yes I did get 2

That's great Laura, I am finding the same, the more I use my leg the more normal things are. I think it's got a lot to do with confidence too, I felt worried about putting too much weight on my leg, the physio encouraged me to. Today I managed to balance on my leg to put my trousers on, took a few goes but figure it's like physio!!!

congrats to you 👏👏👏👏👏👏
