(Male, 75 years old, physically fit from a family with a history of significant longevity.) About 5 years ago I began having pains in the penis of non-sexual origin. Pain location would move day by day or even within the day. Symptoms include penile tip pain or pain on top side of penis. It felt like penis had been in a vice and pain would increase during the day. Other days the pain would be on the right side of the penis and felt more like it had been cut by a knife. Other days pain would originate in the lower pelvis in that indentation just where the penis connects. That would feel more like I had had very spicy food and the pain would then move to the top of the penis, leaving the original spot pain-free. Another recurrent symptom was perineum pain I saw several urologists and was finally diagnosed with chronic non-bacterial prostatitis and underwent surgery (TURP) which did not help at all. I then had about six month of physical therapy which seemed to help some but the doctors were very uncertain about the source of the pain – a lot of talk out “referred pain”. About one month after finishing the treatment I went home to the US for a month (I live in Thailand) and the pain magically started to go away without treatment. I then had about two years of only minor systems. About two months ago the original symptoms returned and most days I have significant pain and urinate frequently. I will soon be going back for medical help, but from experience, I don’t expect a particularly helpful diagnosis. Any ideas? I’m currently on 2 medications: mirabegron and tamsulosin
So you did the right thing in seeing the Urologists. Can you just clarify: you are resident in Thailand most of the time? Were the Urologist you have seen in the US?
The scepticism I have with a some medical systems is that you wonder whether they are after earning a fat fee, rather than confident that something like the TURP you had would resolve the issue for you.
