i had a stool test done that diagnosed what was going on in my gut. it was recommended that i take the following: i Microbiome Probiotic Colstrum Floramyces my good bacteria were low and my bad bacteria high. my questions are if i have ibs aren't these things supposed to show up in my test and won't i always have to take these supplements since i have ibs? i do not like taking anything so this might be a problem. why after 30+ years did my ibs change ? thanks
IBS doesn’t show on any test and symptoms can change over time. Stress and or diet can be factors Or it can be totally random. This is the nature of IBS. To be honest, it’s best not think of think of the reasons; it will only stress you out.. It sounds as if you have something else going on alongside IBS. Other conditions besides IBS do show up. IBS is very different for everyone and not everyone needs supplements. I rarely need an antispasmodic for my IBS and I don’t need supplements because my IBS has changed for the better over time. Have you had a medically confirmed diagnosis of IBS?
Yes, according to two doctors and one gastro. The medical nutritionist mentioned too little of the good bacteria; too much opportunistic bacteria and a low gut immune system. You might not have enough stomach acid/low pancreatic enzymes in your gut which is preventing you from absorbing and digesting properly. I have read that these symptoms are common for IBS.
hi maria,
im not sure what test you are referring to? a test for ibs?
It was a gi test. It was recommended by a medical nutritionist. My regular doctor and my gastro doctor never heard of it.
What other issues could it be other than ibs?
These symptoms can occur with IBS. To find out about things other than IBS, you would need to ask for more tests to see if anything shows up. However, you shouldn’t worry about other conditions when you already have an IBS diagnosis. Try to accept it since three doctors have identified it. Your nutritionist doesn’t seem sure of herself when she says that you ‘might’ have these other conditions you mention. You can only be sure of having these problems by having tests to identify them.
are you sure your ibs hasn’t chsnged to something else? weird i know but i thought i had ibs, to discover it’s coeliac disease. why don’t you see someone just to check. good luck with it all!
Thank you
Thanks, I will mention that to my doctor. I also wanted to mention SIBO just for the heck of it.
that’s sounds like a good idea, i hope you get it sorted!
