Had my first outbreak 4 weeks ago and all the blisters cleared up pretty quickly in a day or two after taking acyclovir 5 times a day. I'm feeling a little numbness in my legs, slight tingling down below and generally feeling tiered. Is it coming back and should I start taking aciclovir again on a smaller dosage. I'm in a relationship with someone and obviously don't want to pass on to him( he knows I have GH) Can you have these syptoms without experiencing any blisters as such.
My doctor has been so vague about it all that I'm so confused as what a second outbreak will be like and she really wasn't that keen on me continuing to take the meds.
Any adice would be very much appreciated 😊
Hello Iizzie,
A quick reply to your question, yes the tingling in your legs is usually an indicator that an outbreak is about to occur, it usually happens like that for me too, have you researched online about the foods to best avoid with having GH, avoid stress and alcohol too.
I would start taking the meds again if you have them (if meds is the route you are following), Ive avoided having an outbreak for over a month by eating a healthy slice of fresh pineapple every day and its working so far.

Hi Lizzie, I have never taken any of the acyclovir-type meds but have found that an amino acid L-Lysine is very good at cutting down the length of time the outbreak lasts and if you take it every day, the attacks should be less frequent. My trigger is stress - lack of sleep, worry, stupid job etc so keep an eye out for what is your trigger and try to avoid it. The food you eat also plays a huge part in it - a lot of people have mentioned pineapple which I haven't tried but find a list of foods high in L-Lysine and low in Arginine as Arginine encourages the virus. L-Lysine, being an amino acid and necessary for some of your bodily processes, is less 'harmful' than taking medicine. I take 2000 mg the moment I feel it starting and then keep it up, 2x1000 mg per hour for the first two days and then down to 1000 mg per hour for the 3rd day etc. The blisters don't normally get so big and disappear much faster. I also get cold sores so deal with a double-whammy! Try everyone's suggestions to see which works the best for you.
Thanks for all the above advice.. Already taking 1000mg of L-lysine on a daily basis, maybe I will up the dose. I'm taking Zinc and Vit C also. Just hard to tell if the weakness/numbness and tierdness I'm
Feeling is an outbreak coming on or could it be nerve damage from first outbreak as it was so sever. It's early days I suppose and if I wasn't in a relationship with someone than I think I would come off the meds all together and just see how my body responds and then I can learn how to feel and expect the symptoms. Thanks so much for all the kind advice. It helps heaps 😊
Hey Lizzie, sometimes it does feel like there's something going on after a severe attack - my lip is numb in one area from a huge cold sore I had over 30 years ago! It's great that we can all encourage one another and share what works for us and what doesn't - glad to help, even just a little.
