So I recently was diagnosed with herpes simplex 1 genital I've been with my ex boyfriend for almost three years always unprotected and always given each other oral. We recently broke up and I've had unprotected sex with someone else which was on the 2 no of June then 12th of June which was a Sunday the 13th which was a Monday and the 15th. Then that Saturday I experienced pain down below well soreness then on Sunday it hurt to pee I looked down and it was one ulcer. Got it checked Monday diagnosed with a swab culture positive Tuesday . My recent partner got tested by blood and his was negative . I got tested with blood the following Monday and mines came back negative for igm 1&2 and positive for Igg 1 - with a 4.5 and negative for Igg 2 . I'm just very confused as to where I got it. Do you think I could have been had it and it laid dormant. Why isn't my most recent partner positive . The timing is just very weird . Please help.

I've heard somewhere before that you could be born with hsv 1 and hsv is quite common. I grew up with a girl who had it and never had sex before. If you ever had a cold sore than chances are you have hsv1 and it just lays dormant. All this info I'm typing isn't backed up or researched recently, just coming off the top of my head from what I know so don't take me seriously 😉

Yeah that's how I feel because why would it just come out now if I had it all that time how long have you known and how have your outbreaks been this is still really new with me and it's bothering me a lot I'm trying to see the light but it's hard .
Genital Type 1 is nearly always through receiving oral sex with someone who has it orally. Could be your ex or the new bf. Since you tested positive by IgG, you've had it for around 3 months *minimum*, possibly for months, years. How long have you been with your new bf?
That's the thing the new guy isn't my boyfriend sorry I just want to make that clear he is a very good friend who just happened to be around and we just slipped up and started having sex this all just happened in June since June 2nd the first time we had sex then the week of June 12th we had intercourse 3 more times and then all of this happened none of the sex was oral .
Then it would seem as though you had it from before. Timing is admittedly odd, however. Were you also swabbed? Did you see your ex's results? Was it for IgG? Have you received oral sex with anyone else besides your ex? It is unusual to get Type 1 from intercourse. Very interesting case!
Yes I swabbed and it came back positive for hsv1. The only person that got tested so far was my current partner and his stuff came back negative from an Igg blood test because he has no symptoms . My ex boyfriend who I was with for about three years and received oral all the time haven't got tested yet I'm waiting for him to do so. I have received oral from other people before but that was about more then three years ago . Is it possible for it to stay dormant for that long ? It is a very confusing situation thank you for trying to help.

Taking 1000mg/valtrex a day...and it's a slow process...my last OB is just looking better after 3weeks!!! Ugh...FML right?
it does suck trust me I'm still trying to process everything I'm only 21 and have only been with two people (intercourse) wise so it sucks but I have a friend who has it and she lives her life and is happy so I know it will get better it's just hard right now

Yeah i don't know your religious views but if you believe in a higher person such as God keep praying that's what I've been doing it sucks and it's unfortunate but no matter how much we dwell it'll never change the circumstance so keep fighting through it
Ah, some confusion regarding who got tested, etc. Okay, so it sounds like your ex likely gave it to you, but for some reason it only flared up when you were with the new guy, which is the odd part. Coincidence, I guess.
yes my ex didn't get tested yet we been together since my freshman year together of college I'm about to go into my senior year . He is the only person I received oral from in those past years. Yes I received oral before him but in the last 3 years it's only been him . The new guy who I only had intercourse with no oral came back negative but I just don't understand why would I have an outbreak a couple days after him . the sex was rough so maybe that's what triggered it but what if my ex comes back negative then what .
I do pray...but it's all on me...meds can help, but that's it..no cure as of now...and yes we will get over this...day by day
I'm in a similar situation. I was in a relationship with my ex for 5 years, haven't had sex with him for two years and he never gave me oral.
My new partner of one year I have been having intercourse and oral with and now all of a sudden I had an outbreak and was diagnosed a week ago with genital HSV1.
I'm going to get the IGG blood test to try and establish if it's recent or something that's been dormant. I'm guessing if im negative with the blood test it will be something that I've got recently from my current partner. Still waiting for him to go get tested.
It sucks. Has yours cleared up? Hopefully we are those people who don't get anymore outbreaks, or at least only a couple and then nothing. It's the stigma and relationship issues which are what are making me so upset about having this.
Wow yeah these situations are so weird I defenitly feel like it's your new partner since you had oral with him . Yes my outbreak has cleared mines wasn't even bad just some stinging when I went to the bathroom it all cleared up in about 3 days . How about you did yours clear up and yes the whole relationship aspect is what's killing me because I've never done anything with anyone else the first time I step out all of this happens .
