Hi
Someone shed some light please ......
I had a colonoscopy on Wednesday morning, the handed report given to me states the procedure from the pount of insertion is normal, however he specialist has taken 5 random biopsies.
So firstly if the colon is healthy as he said to the nurses why take biopsies, did he see anything suspicious?? Also if they found inflammation or polyps would the report state that?
I am terrified that he took biopsies thinking some areas look cancerous, anyone had biopsies with a normal colonoscopy?
Thanks
Your report sounds like the Doctor biopsied your polyps but they were normal. This is the time to be your own advocate. You should call the office of the Dr who performed your colonoscopy, and ask to speak to him, or his assistant. This way they can directly address your concerns about your procedure as well as the report.
. It sounds like all is totally good, but just call for your own peace of mind.
Thanks for your reply. The report didnt state I had polyps would it not state there were polyps if there were any? It just says the examination was normal to the point of insertion.
Yes, I also had tissue taken as well as the removal of a tiny polyp - the consultant told me that everything looked okay, the biopsies were just to confirm his visual diagnosis.
The report I was given did state that a 3cm sessile polyp had been removed.

Hi
Thanks, this is what I am confused about nothing on my report states polyps but biopsies have been taken so i assume random biopsies of tissue directly from the colon were taken
I think you're probably right. I was told my GP would be sent the results of the biopsies and that I should make an appt with him about 10 days after the colonoscopy. My GP confirmed there was no evidence of pre cancerous cells. If I remember correctly the report said something like "report to referring physician".
Were you advised to see your GP for the results of the biopsies?

Just said awaiting pathology results and seee the consultant in 6 weeks
I have had several colonoscopies now (I have left side ulcerative colitis). I don't have sedation so I watch the whole procedure. I can see clearly the areas of my colon which are affected by UC but the doctor always takes several biopsies from all parts of the colon so I think it's just a precaution they take.
Hi Confused, I had a colonoscopy today and they took biopsies. I knew they were going to do this as a letter to my doctor said they would make certain everything was normal. I used to do the job so know that to be true.
please don't worry.
regards Eileen
Same here. As you get older you can start getting little skin blemishes and moles and all sorts of thngs that appear, inside and outside. 99.999% are benign. I had one in my nose about 50 years ago that casued some bleeding but was completely benign, and its never appeared again. "Mutations in certain genes can cause cells to continue dividing even when new cells aren't needed" Anything that looks odd may be biopsied; I just got a phone call a few days after the procedure and a chat with the senior nurse who reassured me all was well after they removed a couple of polyps
Itserfectly normal kay. I had a colonoscopy 18 months ago and they took biopsies - they do as a matter of course whilst they're "up there" I think. My procedure was to eliminate other possibilities before they diagnosed IBS.
Did you have any polyps? My report doesnt mention i had any. What were your results?
Hi Kay. No no polyps. My results came back clear. Why did your docs order the procedure in the first place? Mine was as i say to eliminate any other possible problems before they diagnosed IBS. I also had the other end pip test which was horrible.
pipe test - the endoscopy
Hi
I have had a change in bowel habits for about 3 months now including weight loss (self induced by eating less), so they ordered a colonoscopy.
I have had the endoscopy too back in June for another reason, I was convinced I had stomach cancer with persistent acid reflux.
Yes did have polyp results going to GP with 14 days, please don't worry. Did you ask was it ok or anything?
Yes the Nurses said the procedure results were normal nothing found, the report says normal too and the sites where the biopsies were taken (5 were taken)
