Hey everyone, I'm having long standing genital pain (over two months now). While I've felt an infrequent pain in the base of the penis and in the testicles (sometimes it feels like the ghost pain after being hit in the area), the most painful and unrelenting part was the tip of the penis. It felt raw and very irritated. It has been intense enough to keep me up at night and affect my schooling. No discharge or rash have ever appeared, besides a reddish discoloration on the tip that sometimes appears after a shower, but goes away afterwards. I've been tested for STI's twice as this started roughly 2-3 days after unprotected sex, but have tested negative for HIV, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. The girl also claims to be STI free. I haven't noticed any pain when going to the bathroom, but have noticed increased pain after masturbation and the orgasms haven't been particularly enjoyable. I've seen a urologist and dermatologist and they are unsure of what it was, but told me it was unlikely an STI (since I was still worried about that) or a fungal infection. I initially took a 14 day cycle of doxycycline for an epididymis infection, but didn't see much improvement. I used a hydrocortisone cream for 3 days this last week and that has helped with the pain on the tip, but I have still noticed a dull pain in my lower abdomen. The pain has died down these last few days, but I still feel like there is an underlying condition I'm not treating. It's been 3 weeks since I masturbated and I tried to see if it was still painful last night and I found there was still discomfort. I notice some of my symptoms line up with prostatitis. I'm a young college graduate student, I don't have a lot of money for frequent doctor visits, and I have already racked up $500+ on visits, labs, and medicine.
So here are my questions, could this be prostatitis? Who do you see and/or how do you get tested? Could this be something else? I've heard balanitis or can also effects the tip, but the doctor said it was unlikely anything fungal, I didn't show any signs of infection on the surface, and the 14 day cycle of antibiotics should have helped if was a bacterial infection of the tip. I'm really confused, frustrated, and worried.
