Confusion!

I am not sure if I have put this in the right group or not?!

I came off Amitriptyline 3 weeks ago (I was on it for insomnia for 3 years, it worked fine, but gave me problems in the end so I came off). Since coming off I have had various withdrawal symptoms, but the one that has remained is confusion (and a heavy feeling in my head), I feel so muddled headed and am finding it really hard to concentrate on work. Has anyone else had this feeling of confusion after coming off Amitriptyline?

Thoughts/opinions would be really welcome :-)

Hi Claire,

At what rate did you come off Amitriptyline, I'm assuming you were on 50mg doses?

Normally, with Amitriptyline you need another medication to be weaned off them.

Les.

Many anti depressants do leave you with withdrawal symptoms.  I would have thought after 3 weeks you would not be feeling so muddled headed, but perhaps the Amitriptyline just needs time to clear your body.

The same thing happened to me but I came off a different drug but with all antidepressants the withdrawals are much the same. The good news is that the confusion will soon go it just your brain trying to adjust without the meds

Thank you Michael for your reassuring comment, much appreciated :-)

Thanks for your reply Les, no I was only on 10-20mg (sometimes 10 sometimes 20) and I went 'cold turkey' not to be advised I know, but I tried weaning down and I felt so unwell, I just stopped! Maybe thats the problem?!

Your welcome, you hang on in there and you will be fine

Hi Claire,

I'm actually being weaned off Tramadol and Amitriptyline, but in order for me to do it, I have to be weaned on to other tablets, and then the aforementioned will be tried to be removed. The problem with me though is I'm on over 30+ tablets a day and 6 BoTox Injections every 10 weeks. That's Life I guess, nothing is easy!

Regards,

Les.
