Constant burning pain in stomach. Really annoying.

Hi,

I'm 18 years old from Spain and I'm studying in London. Last december I got an episode of gastritis, it was a pain that started right after I finished eating a Tesco sandwich. I felt confused and lightheaded and started to get really bad and constant stomach pains. I was flying back home the next day so I decided to wait and see what I the doctor had to say. She said it was gastritis caused by food poisoning, which went away within a month taking Ranitidine. After that my stomach was quite sensitive to hunger and other stuff.

It was all good until 20 days ago. I started getting something similar together with the feeling like I had a lump in my throat. I didn't get much sleep in the first 2 or 3 days. This time I'm alone in London taking care of myself. It started on 18/05 and I went to the doctor two days after and he said it was another gastritis caused by stress this time. It's true that I'm in a lot of stress lately due to various reasons so I just started taking omeoprazole 20mg twice a day. I was getting better, but after 10 days I had a heated discussion with my mother and I lost all my progress: I started feeling all ligtheaded and confused, fast heart rate, and that horrible constant pain came back again. So again I didnt get much sleep for a couple of days and when I went to the doctor again I had a big breakdown. I told him all that was going on in my life and he said it had been anxiety (which I've never suffered until now). I asked him about rubeprazole, which my cousin has been taking and told me it works perfectly for acidity, and he told me to take rubeprazole and also ibs medicine and kalms tablets. I started working on distracting myself from my own thoughts (that basically were "I'm going through this alone this is horrible I want it to end now" ) and it worked surprisingly well. Also, when I went back home for a couple of days and I was feeling safe and calm, it got to its lowest point. However, when I came back, things started getting a little wobbly. I was feeling fine but doubted what was gonna happen until 10 days after that 2nd episode, the 3rd one started happening (yesterday). I got really hungry last evening and ate too much. I was feeling really full and it was kind of hard for me to get sleep. Tonight it's all back again. The constant annoying burning pain that doesn't let me sleep. I'm so sick of this. I feel like I'm putting my life on hold because of this. Does anyone know what's gonna happen to me?

Thank you,

Gerard

Hello.

Gastritis can be caused by many things and you need to change your diet and lifestyle to heal. PPI's like omaprezole and rabeprazole help by reducing acid but its diet and lifestyle changes (reduced stress/drinking/smoking) that ultimately allow you to heal.

You need to understand what triggers your gastritis and remove it. Certain foods and drinks will trigger it, as will eating late at night !

And it takes time to heal. Weeks and months. And it's likely you will have a sensitive stomach for a long time.

Good luck

Gastritis triggers can be chocolate, coffee, alchohol and spicy or greasy foods.  Try eating little but often,
