Hello all,
I have been suffering from constant dizziness for 5 weeks now.
It started off as vertigo for the first week or so, a constant feeling on spinning around or the room spinning around me.
Then after the first week it has changed to just a dizzy feeling, like my brain and my eyes aren’t working together, my brain is taking a while to catch up! I also developed a very heavy feeling in my legs, it’s feels like my strength is only at 50% or like gravity is weighing on me more than normal.
When I’m lying down I feel my body is being pushed into the bed, I know this sounds so weird but it’s hard to explain.
I went to my GP, he says it was probably just an ear infection and the dizziness will clear up in a matter of weeks. I have not really had any ear infections that I was aware of, can you get them and not know?
I am an anxious person by nature so the lack of any real explanation bothers me. My mind runs away with me..like maybe it’s MS or a brain tumor or something terrible like that!
I can get referred to see an ENT but it will be 9 months waiting as I can’t afford to go privately.
Any advice?
Hi,
Mine is like a swaying boat like feeling in head and heavy light weight when walking on cotton ground
I suspect is anxiety or PPPD PERSISTENT POSTURAL-PERCEPTUAL DIZZINESS

I suggest you eat an elimination diet for 2 weeks to see if your symptoms change or disappear , stop alcohol altogether and do a complete heart check at a cardiologist ,
also did you have panic attacks before?
9 months waiting for a doctor appointment is absurd , why this long wait ?
At a guess i would say they OP is in the UK. I've been waiting to see a Neurologist for nearly 7 months and still waiting.
How expensive would it be if you pay a doctor privately , out of pocket where you are ?
Here in NY you can go to good doctors in chinatown ,they see you same day and pay $ 70 to $ 160 , depending on the specialty
HI there, thanks for your suggestion. I don’t drink alcohol and have had an ECG done, heart is fine. Have suffered panic attacks in the past but none lately. Think maybe anxiety is playing a role here though.
That’s the public system waiting list
I’m in Ireland so similar to the UK I imagine, long waiting lists for public patients
I am going to have a private MRI done in a few days. It will cost around €220 maybe more but the dr reckons it will ease my mind that there’s nothing more serious wrong. I suffer from anxiety so I’m worried about being sick.
Anywhere from £250 to £400. The thing is that's just for a consultation the any test etc cost thousands.
I refuse to pay private as we pay high taxes in the UK and a large part goes to funding the NHS.
With such high living costs over here many people just can't afford it👎
Hi Matt , sorry to hear the absurdity of prices there , in NY chinatown I had in the past done Dr Visits , tests and scans for reasonable prices and very quickly , I wish it was the same there . I know that in Croatia , Bosnia and the nearby countries a lot of Italians go there for medical and dental care at 1/3 of the price and quickly , they say it's very professionaly done , consider that.
I also have a history of anxyety , panic attacks and more ,it can give you a lot of fake symptoms that mimic real serious diseases ,and then after all the tests I found out I'm healthy and I don't have those diseases ,eventually the symptoms go away , it happened to me so many times , now I learned to manage stress ,panic attacks, vertigo etc... and I feel better
Trust me I know the feeling. I dealt with this on and off for 8 years. It is def. Coming from your ear. I am going to write my story here soon but I just signed up and saw your post so I can tell you how to fix it. Long story short if you feel pain around your ear that you keep massaging wont go away its a sinus infection. Go to a quickie type doctor tell them all the symptoms of a sinus infection to get antiobotics. Sometimes sinus infections can take a long time to show all the symptoms. You should feel like a normal person soon.
Would you have nystagmus with this? My GP says I have slight nystagmus when I look to the left
Hi,
No i do not
One thing in common about us in notice in this forum for such, we are anxiety and panicky person by nature
By the way, i am from Singapore
Alan
Hello I was diagnosed with labrynthiits and nystagmus back in march from a sinus cold i previousy had.
I went to and ENT and he told me that he didn't know what it was and it wasnt labs..my eyes have t been the same since. I've just been referred to a dizzy clinic because nobody can seem to figure it out. Pppd sounds like exactly what I have. But it's very unheard of by docs right now because it was just added in the WHO in 2016...
Donyoy feel better in the car or when moving? I dont...grocery stores throw me off also.
Hi,
I feel better in the car and bus
Seems like Pppd, but not sure Singapore doctor know about this problem
Mine is like a swaying boat like feeling in head and heavy light weight when walking on cotton ground
Are you a person of anxiety and panic by nature
People with pppd don't feel better in the car. Actually feel worse.
Yours sounds like mal de barqment syndrome ...look that up and see if the symptoms are the same you have.
For mal de barqment, I have not been on any cruise or airplane lately, i just woke up one morning and got the sensation, it got worse over time with anxiety
If i never read wrongly, PPPD also feel better if in car
