Constant head pressure in the temples and eyes

I have had pain and pressure in my eyes and temples for almost a year now. My face feels fuzzy and tingly and I feel woozy a lot of the time. Nothing takes the pain away when it is really bad. Tried Tylenol 3's and oxycocet with no relief. The only thing that helped with the intensity of the pain was Inderal (Proponolol) which is a migraine prophylactic or a high blood pressure medication. It relaxes the blood vessels. Even on the medication I had times when I still felt woozy and my face felt fuzzy and tingly. I went off the Inderal for a while as it also impacted my Gastroparesis and I am trying Flunarizine another migraine medication but not having much luck. I still have the constant pain and pressure in my temples and eyes on both sides. MRI on the neck and head were both normal. Really frustrated as I feel awful pretty much every day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

sounds like a sinus infection but I think that would come up on an MRI

Thanks for your reply. One doctor thought it was a sinus infection and put me on antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds. They did nothing to help the pain and pressure. The neurologist I saw thinks it is migraines but I am not convinced since it is continuous. I spend a lot of time on the internet searching for possible answers since the docs don't seem to have any real answers. I really appreciate you taking the time to contact me.

thanks,

Hey, I can say I feel for you and I understand. I have had a headache/pressure in my head for over a year and a half now. I have been to 13 doctors, tried numerous medications. Nothing seems to help. It is 24/7. Some days I feel like I am going to lose my mind. It is constant by my temples and around eyes/forehead. I also get other additional headaches each day. Hard to explain but the pressure in eyes and temples is constant then I either have what fees like a migraine in addition or shooting pain as/throbbing etc. can I ask, do you have anxiety??

Thanks for the reply. I can relate to your problems. The only anxiety I have is dealing with this head, prior to that I was fine. I have had a constant throbbing in my left eye for years now which I could cope with. This new problem is much worse. Sometimes the pain and pressure isn't too bad but the tingling and fuzzy and woozy feeling is worse. The only relief I get from it all is sleeping. When I wake up in the morning, the pressure seems worse so I have to get up. When the pain and pressure is worse, nothing takes it away. I have another appointment with the neurologist the middle of May and an appointment at a headache clinic the end of May so I am trying to hang in there until then. I think my family doctor is tired of seeing me. I don't think he believes that it is as bad as I say it is. Do you have the same problem with the doctors you have seen? I am from Ontario, Candada. Is it the same where you live?

Hi Lynn.

I have been researching this condition for about a year now and I'm pretty sure I have found the answer.

Your problem could well be that your sphenoid sinus cavity is blocked. Sphenoid sinusitus is very different from usual sinusitus. Symptoms are pressure felt in the head, worse when bending or leaning forward, pain behind the eyes, headaches and a feeling of light headedness or dizziness.

I believe scans are often deemed normal when they look clogged as doctors need to see a high level of fluid or swelling. I'm currently trying to collect people's scans so I can compare them to see if they look the same. Already done this with 2 scans and both show a lot of clogging but were deemed normal.

I have set up an Email Group for sufferers of this and hope to solve this mystery once and for all and get people fixed.

Thanks for your input. I will look into it. Yes, all my scans are "normal" but I feel anything but normal. The hard part is that my symptoms are not consistent, they vary from day to day, sometimes hour to hour. Please keep me up to date if you find anything else.

i appreciate all the help and support I can get. I can't remember the last time I felt well and it is very frustrating trying to convey that to the doctors who don't believe I feel as awful as I do, pretty much every day.

thanks again.

lynn

does anyone else out there find that the pain meds do nothing for the burning pressure/pain in the temples and eyes? Sometimes it is excruciating and nothing takes it away. I saw my doctor and he said that my paranasal sinuses were normal according to the CT scan but he has referred me to 2 different ENT docs just in case. I also get postural lightheadedness sometimes too but my doc checked my heart and it is fine. It is over a year now and not sure how much more of this I can take. Haven't tried naturopathic yet but I may be forced to go that route if I don't get some answers soon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks.

If any new information is available please share. I've been dealing with all of these symptoms for over a year now and seen multiple doctors and nothing has helped so far. So frustrated at this point.

You have described precisely what I have been dealing with for 9 months. In fact, despite significant efforts to find a discussion that is on point, i have not found anything on point, until now. Can you please tell me how I can join your discussion? Thanks!

You have described precisely what I have been experiencing for 9 months. Did you ever find a solution?

Hi

I have the exact same head pressure and I also suffer from health anxiety, my head feels constantly full and I have moments where I feel woozy so I take myself out of the room and breath for 5 mins and it seems to pass but my constant thought is that I have a tumour, I've had blood tests recently in November, would a tumour, malignant or benign be picked up on a blood test, my doctor said they pretty much checked for everything and it was all fine and normal but I'm still getting head pain.

I too have been told it could be my sinuses so I have made an appointment with my gp

to see if they can arrange an MRI, I just want peace of mind that there is nothing serious going on before it gets too late x

You sound just like me!! And yes I have anxiety

Hi, I'm currently going through this horrible head, neck, under and on top of eyes and temple ache right now and have been for 5 days, I suffer with health anxiety really bad and I've convinced myself it's something worse. I went to the doctors today and as said it's my sinisus which are blocked due to a cold/running nose last week. She said all my anxiety symptoms on top have just heightened everything.

I am very interested in hearing more about this research and to see if anyone has found relief. I found out not to long ago that I have hypothyroidism and the terrible headaches, the pressure in the eyes and the head, and so on has started along with it. They thought I had a pituitary tumor because the pressure is so bad where your pituitary gland is located and in my head. I had an MRI done on it and they said it is swollen but no growth was found. This form got me wondering if it is maybe the pressure from the swollen pituitary gland on the sphenoid sinus cavity causing all the pain and pressure? I would love to hear more thoughts and results!

I have similar problem. Had had it five years and was a year before the medics took me seriously. I take 20mg Amitriptyline every day to dampen it down tho'it never away it does help.

Unfortunately at present I feel awful and have increased dosage to 40 plus any pain killers I can find and till suffering. I feel like I did before I started the Amitriptyline. Saw a nerve specialist five years ago and he sad he had heard of the pressure symptoms but not the fuzzy tingling stuff.

It it can really get me down. Hope this calms down a bit soon. Maybe I need to increase Amitriptyline  even more. Will return to doctor this week if it persists.

hope me you try Amitriptyline and it helps you.

How are you now Lyn?

I Have had this problem for five years. I am taking Amitriptyline and it has helped but the feeling is never totally away. Having a bad spel just now that is why I looked this up on the computer.

Mu 94900, is there nothing that the doctors can/will do to treat this condition? I just recently started having these symptoms and started to get very worried. I have a preexisting heart condition and the the last 3 years have had some on and off health issues but last week was the first time I felt this. My head is in constant pain from the pressure and it feels like it could explode at any time. I like many others here have the symptoms come and go and change frequently depending on the time of the day. Anyways, I hope that my doctors can find some relief as this is very draining on the body and I'm only 1 week into getting this way.

I have had this pain going on 6 years and it is driving me nuts.....I have tried amitriptyline, and I have just got done trying gabapentin and an anti depressant and nothing is taking the pain away. I have had CT scans, MRIs, and even had nose surgery to clear out my sinuses and still nothing. I have horrible pain in my temples in the bridge of my nose and my forehead.....The pain also goes under the eyes like a tingly feeling and no one can seem to find a solution.....I have an appointment back at the VA in two weeks but I am not sure what else can be done. Has anyone found any other way of getting this pain to go away???? Just to go to sleep at night I have to wear one of those 80s Nike sweat bands around my forehead and temples as I can't sleep without it unless I lay on one side and press my thumb into my temple to apply pressure.....Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated as it seems to be getting worse every year that goes by and I have become a hermit not wanting to do anything...I was at the theater the other day and the pain in my temples was crazy and I even had pain in my jaw and teeth. I do sleep with a mouth guard now as they thought the pain was coming from me grinding my teeth but been wearing it for almost a month now and no change.....Please help. Thank you for anyone's time who reads this.
