Constant heartburn after gallbladder removal

Hi there,
I had GB removal surgery about two weeks ago. My GB showed symptoms of long term damage and scarring. I had no stones, but a lot of sludge. Since the surgery, I’ve had almost constant chest burning in my sternum area. It’s so bad I often cant sleep. My doctor put me on PPI pantoprazole. i also take Pepcid, but it doesn’t help much. I suspect bile reflux–i’m due for diagnostic test: MRCP next week to make sure no damage to biliary ducts after surgery. Any suggestions on what to take to make the burning stop so i can get some sleep!? Thank you!

Following you. I am a year and a half post surgery I have reflux and some D. my GP suspects bile acid malabsorption .I’m just starting Questran bile binder. Ive had success in the past with manuka honey, acacia fiber to bind the bile. I would also try no dairy, gluten or fatty foods. I had been doing ok but started juicing trying celery and i think it caused me to produce too much bile.

thank you Jenn! I’m at my wit’s end. The burning sensation comes and goes but tonight is awful. Like a constant gnawing heat and burning in my chest that spreads out from my esophagus. Our family friend is a GI. He says sometimes a little bile can dislodge during the GB surgery and cause irritation. Who knows. I wish you the best of luck with your treatment too. Hope you get some relief again.
