Constant indigestion feeling, anxiety

Hello,

Could really do with some help and advice.

I recently gave birth 10 weeks ago and started having gallbladder attacks around 6 weeks. I had a really bad one 3 weeks ago and ever since then I haven’t felt right. My stomach can feel like it’s burning usually at night which keeps me awake, or I’ll get bad trapped gas, I have a nagging pain in my back like indigestion but constant. Does anyone know what I can do about the indigestion like pain? That’s whats really bothering me. I am on a low fat diet and I haven’t had a bad attack since, went to doctors today and she’s booked me in for  bloods to check liver function and is sorting me out an appointment with a specialist to discuss surgery. All while this is going on I have my 10 week old bf daughter so I can’t take anything other than paracetamol for the pains. I have also been getting super anxious in the evenings to the point of tears because I just feel like everything is on top of me and feel ill. Any advice would be appreciated.

How awful,I can really sympathise with you.is your pain on the right hand side under the rib?

Hi poppy

how awful... it’s good the low fat diet has stopped the attacks ..it sounds like you have gastritus (inflamed stomach lining ) heart burn etc ... I suffered from that when I had gallbladder attacks .. try taking gaviscon after you eat and before bed .. also stop drinking tea and coffee and cola  as caffeine is an irritant to sore stomach .. I drank water , mint tea and camomile , all help healing .. avoid acidic foods like tomatoes and fruit ..eat rice,  potatoes boiled vegetables bananas  soft comfort food well cooked so your stomach can heal and doesn’t require lots of bile to digest .. avoid red meat as it is harder to digest ..chickens good and fish steamed etc ..

if you change diet within a couple of days the burning will stop and your tummy will heal .. then stick to the diet for a couple of weeks to properly heal then start seeing if your stomach lining can tolerate tea , fruit, etc a little bit at a time gradually introduce yourself back to it ..

youll be surprised how quickly it heals ..

water lots of it really helps ..

let us know how you get on

I felt I had shares in gaviscon ... a life saver

No it’s right in between my shoulder blades 😞

I’ve been avoiding caffeine too and drinking peppermint tea to aid digestion. Do you have anymore suggestions on what to eat? I feel very limited as it is. I was prescribed Omeprazole originally because she diagnosed me with GERD but then I had the massive attack, insisted it was gallstones and got and US which confirmed the stones were there. Should I continue to take the Omeprazole  or is that a question I should ask my doctor? I will try the gaviscon even though it makes me feel sick when taking it because of the taste. I have tried Rennies but they didn’t touch it.  Just fed up of feeling unwell :-(

percent .. it heals ulcers but should only be taken for a couple of months although people are on it for years .. I would ring your gp and ask her opinion if she says yes within a couple of hours your burning pain should ease on omeprazole..👍

SOrry half my message disappeared .. omeprazole is given to prevent and ease gallbladder attacks as it cuts your stomach acid production by 90 percent ..allowing healing and giving your gallbladdder a break ..

Hi. Have u tried lanzaperole they are the same family to what you are taking but may be worth enquiring. I'm two week post op but still in pain my go has prescribed me Zapain 30mg/500mg codeine phosphate /paracetamol tablets they help with pain

Gp I ment!

Hello, I’m on Omeprazole because it’s the safest thing to take while breastfeeding. I can’t rake anything other than paracetamol for pain. How’re you feeling apart from the pain? Is it just operation pain?

Yeah she prescribed it to me because she thought I was getting acid reflux though I’m not, however I was pondering whether or not to take it. Will ring them in the morning!

The pain relief situation must be hard.I'm still not feeling great two weeks on but as other forum members posted to me it can take months to feel completely normal again.my scars healing fine but have a content dull ache in my upper right hand side it hurts when I cough or roll over in bed.Ive had open surgery ops I have recuperated quicker then this from them!I get a lot of diarrhea at present if something doesn't agree with me.I think its down to the individual though.the sooner they can remove it for you the better.gall bladder attacks are nasty

Constent dull ache I ment!

That sounds like really great advice, some of these symptoms are happening to me too, going to try what you recommend, thanks

Hope you are healed soon! I keep reading horror stories and it’s not helping my anxiety. I rang the doctor and she told me that the Omeprazole wouldn’t help my gallbladder but I could try it to make the burning pain go away. I’m now getting intermittent pain under my ribs on the right hand side as well. 😩

I suffer from depression and anxiety too but am medicated for it.obvs not an option for you as b/feeding.have you been scanned/xrayed and told how many stones you have?I had eleven show up on mine.I went to and a and e continuously to get my answers

I’ve had an ultrasound and that detected stones but when I went to the doctors she didn’t tell me how many I had but I could partially see on her screen it said large stone and thin walled gallbladder but that my other organs looked normal.

Hi poppy me again you will feel better if the omeprazole takes the burning away .. but the gnawing pain under your rib like a mouse nipping and in your back is not dangerous ..

when your gallbladder has stones in it ..

the lining can become sore and inflamed by the stones rubbing against it..

when you eat fat or hard to digest foods you’re stomach requests extra bile from your gallbladder your gallbladder contracts sqeezes and the stones get sqeezes and rub against the lining of your gallbladder make it sore hence the gnawing pain .. to help this heal I lived on boiled potatoes boiled broccoli and carrots with bistro gravy  I couldn’t stomach meat .. I ate weetabix and had toast with low fat spread 😔 but after a good few days of this bland diet the gallbladder healed and then I would forgetting and stuff and set it off again 🤪 but when I was awaiting surgery I just ate this daily and I coped with life .. then after surgery yippee I was so happy no nausea yes I had an a awing pain for a little while but that settled down it was just all the stitches healing and your liver dripping bile directly into your stomach constantly as no gallbladder their anymore .. the thing to worry about is agonisingly vomiting attacks when your gallstones get stuck these just resolve after 8 hours buscopan can help to stop spasms .. but if this happens just go to a and e .. you’ll be fine .. I avoided any vomiting attacks by not eating any fat .. hang in there ..

Hi poppy,

I can't advise you regarding pain medication, but would like to share my similar experience, maybe it will help.

I started having frequent stomach/back pains after pregnancy as well, which initially happened at 2-3 month intervals and lasted about 1-2 hrs, and progressively increased to 1 month intervals and 6-8+ hours in agony. Almost always about 1h after eating. I thought at the beginning it was reflux because the stomach was not 'right' after pregnancy. None of the over the counter pain meds worked, so i stopped trying to take them and just suffered through, clutching a pillow and bent over the sofa.

1.5 years of this, i finally spoke to my doctor and turned out i had gallstones, apparently common after pregnancy. Over the next few months i was deciding if i should have surgery now or later, thinking i can control it through diet. I ended up about a week ago in the ER, stayed in hospital with pancreatitis caused by bile duct being blocked by one of the stones getting loose and traveling down. IV fluids and no food or water for a few days, and morphine, while the pancreas and liver calmed down. Luckiily the stone passed on it's own after about 40 hours of pure misery.

Now i'm waiting for surgery after the holidays, i was lucky that there were no other complications with the last episode.

If your doctor advises you to get surgery, don't delay, it may impact your other organs, which you need more than a gallbladder. And keep the low fat diet to hopefully stave away attacks.

I hope you feel better soon.

It’s truly horrible Dee, it’s been making me feel so down. I get anxiety attacks in the evenings or when laying in bed at night trying to sleep just wishing this wasn’t happening. I will definitely get the surgery, even with all these bad experiences I keep reading about. Sorry to hear about your awful time and having to go to A&E! My doctor has referred me to a specialist and I have to wait for an appointment but she’s stressed that I have a new baby and it’s making me feel unwell to hopefully push it sooner!
