Constant mucous in throat. Anyone have this? Usually clear sometimes yellow but

It is all the time. Just feels like the mucous is sitting in my throat. Anyone have this?

You're not alone.. I have it so badly it makes me gag constantly! I can't be of much help in the way of telling you why we have it or how to get rid of it but I'm pretty sure it's a common symptom of reflux and is controlled with reducing reflux.

Hope you get sorted soon, I know it's horrid to deal with!

We all have it. In my case I also get sinus pain.

Try rinsing your sinus regularly throughout the day with a nettie pot or similar. It will clear out the large amount of mucus sitting in your sinus cavities and probably overflowing down your throat. At least for a short while before they refill. Might help a little but its not a cure.

I rinse mine in the mornings and before I go to sleep.

Also stay away from dairy. Milk, cheese, ice-cream, etc as it will increase mucus production.

Not one of my doctors have ever ventured an opinion on this. They just say allergies, shrug their sholders, and generally ignore me.

Thank you! I had to sit on a plane today and thought I was going to gag. I was trying not to be rude so I refrained from clearing my throat. So horrible.

Thank you so much. I seem to have the acid burn under control but this mucous is still here. All the time. Ive eliminated dairy but I'll try the Nettie pot

Oh bless you! It sounds silly but honestly the more you relax the muscles in your throat the quicker it goes away. Mind over matter.. tell yourself you're not going to throw up and relax as best you can x

The next time you're on a plane try taking some sudafed. The old sudafed, not the new sudafed.

It will dry out your nose for a few hours, but leave you with a dry mouth. I wouldn't recomend you make a habit of it though as none of these drugs are good for us. There are other decongestants that might work short term too. It's just for occasions you're stuck next to people and you want to avoid the thoat clearing.

As to the cause of this and cure, well I'm still looking for answers too. All I know right now is that its acid reflux related somehow.

This is one of the most common symptoms of extra-oesophageal reflux (commonly known as LPR). In a survey last year 64% of reflux sufferers reported it.

If you visit DownWithAcid org uk and scroll down the contents (home) page, you'll find Extra-oesophageal reflux under th egenreal Reflux section and can read about the mechanics and the symptoms it causes.

Medicines are good at reducing acid but not reflux.

Refluxate traveling the full column of the oesophagus can breach the upper sphincter (cricopharyngeus) and aspirate into the airways. The irritation promotes increased mucous production as a protection and also to help expel the foreign matter.

You can try gargling - and sipping water. But reducing reflux generally is required.

Yes I have it to. You are not alone.
