Constant Shortness of Breath and Tight Back

Hello All,

It’s been about two years since I last posted here. I’d been doing really well for a few months, able to keep anxious thoughts to a minimum but recently I’ve slipped back into constant anxiety so much so I’m now off work

What’s bothering me is near constant shortness of breath that feels very real. My work involves alot of talking and its taking its toll. I was given an inhaler just in case but it makes little difference. I don’t feel confident doing my stairs at home let alone out in public. Also I’ve recently been getting a tight back in the afternoon every day, stretching takes it away but only briefly. Sometimes its combined with a tight chest. This comes with constant retching which is horrible feels like I am choking.

I’ve had my chest listened to, clear. Peak flow test is always around 700 even when I feel SOB and tight. Sats are fine and I’ve had 2 ECGs 5 years ago. Countless blood tests in between. My doctor said I could do a 24/7 ECG but they’re not keen as this supposedly makes people only more anxious. Bottom line he says it’s all anxiety.

Anyone else feel like this? It’s tough but I am determined to get through it. Also great that mental health is being highlighted more recently.

Have a good weekend all!

i constantly have shortness or breath and upper back pain… its anxiety. also how is your posture? are you a sloucher?

hi , ive suffered with these symptoms ! they have all come back within the last month . the random pains in chest and back are really painfull and scary . ive not left the house since tuesday cant go to work . im so tired but havnt done that much i just feel weak . i had tests before etc and told me its anxiety . just feel like no one gets this pain n symtons like i do and makes me worry . how are you feeling ?

Definitely think I slouch. I’ve adjusted the car, gonna get a posture keeper for my work chair.

@louise35319 Took a day off work myself to calm down, feeling abit better.

I just feel like my doctor doesn’t look past anxiety and just wants me to leave.

I can relate, I feel randomly weak a few times a day, thought it was blood sugar but that’s always okay. I had to come clean to my employer and it’s like I spoke alien to them, they don’t get the double life we lead.

I can recommend a book I’ve started called the Dare response. Helps to break down anxiety symptoms.

i can never explain how i feel to anyone they just dont understand so i suffer in silence . and i agree about the doctors looking past tbe anxiety its very frustrating . im back to work tuesday and the way ive been today i just dont know if im going to be able to . i will give that book a go . hope you get a good nights rest
