Constantly breathless!!

Hi all! Was wondering if many others experienced a constant breathlessness with their anxiety? I don't seem to be able to focus on anything other than my breathing! I sleep well, once I get to sleep, so I know there's nothing actually wrong with my breathing then so why can't I convince myself of that when I'm awake??

Glad someone else feels this way. I'm struggling all the time with my breathing. I'm the same I can sleep & often wake up fine but once my mind starts with the worries my breathing starts bothering me again! It's like i can't get a full yawn out. Awful feeling!!

Thank you for your reply Kate! It is indeed comforting to know I'm not alone either. It seems to be a terrible habit we've gotten ourselves into, an obsession with something that ultimately we've no control over...Breathing happens automatically and us monitoring it constantly is not going to change that. We have all the answers, yet we don't seem able to believe them. I'm on day 4 of sertraline and take the  occasional diazepam when the proverbial really hits the fan. Distraction is what we need ...but I don't seem able to get out of my own way at the minute! This too shall pass...xx

Yes I’m the same I feel like I can’t catch my breathe I just tell me myself it’s all in my head then I relax abit

Hi there. You should check for Lyme disease. That’s one of the symptoms. I have chronic Lyme disease – suffer terribly with it. Best light of  defense is early detection.  Good luck!!

I get breathless all the time and it’s never when I feel anxious! I feel like I can’t breathe naturally and have to force myself and feel like I have to yawn to get the right amount of breathing in

When I had therapy not long ago, he taught me a teqnique..hold your breath for 10 then out through your nose at the count of 2..3.. then in through your mouth 2...3.. continue for a minute until the feeling goes, it really does work! Do it as many times as you like until you feel at ease with your breathing hope this helps you...let me know xx

Thank you Jade....I will give it a go and let you know xx

Gabrielle,

breathing issues are common with anxiety.  Here is a short audio that will help you regain control over your breathing and feel way more relaxed.

search you tube for “Mindfulness breathing Guided meditation 10 minutes “

I use earbuds for a better effect.     Feel better,

Thank you Jan! I'll look it up now xx
