constipation and lansoprazole

Anyone here experienced constipation with lansoprazole drugs i.e. Dexilant or Prilosec? I have been taking 60mg/day for about 4 months with a slight increase to 120 mg/day for one month. I am experiencing constipation enough to where 3 stool softeners a day does not help.

I suffered with terrible constipation whilst I was on the ppi meds (nexium and I tried others).

I would give magnesium ago. I have attendency to get blocked up and last couple of days I've taken powdered mag supp and it's been amazing for my bowels. No straining!!!!

Thanks Dom, it is good to know that I am not alone with this problem. I will look into the magnesium ( Phillips Milk Of Magnesia?) and hope for the same result. I have been passing very hard stools and have damaged my anus to the point of severe discomfort with each BM.

I had diahrea for 1-2 days and then the symptoms cleared, I think that you may be on a too high dosage I mean 60mg dose is a high dose 120mg lanso is the maximum dose unless you've got Zoolynger Elisson or something like that... Could you please tell us why are you taking the med...

I've never had it to bother me and I've been taking 40mg a day for a couple of years. If your talking other Meds maybe check the side effects on them. Good luck.

How long exactly have you been on them, couple of years, how much years is it?

Diagnosed with LPR aka silent reflux. Not only was I on 120mg/day Dexilant but 300mg/day renitadine. I first stopped the renitidine then 60mg Dexilant and as of today the second 60mg Dexilant. Hopefully that will relieve the constipation.

About seven months. Have seen both ENT and GE Docs. And even with all this I saw no improvement in symptoms.

that's not good.  you need to change to something else.  or cut down on the amount of medication you are taking.  That's never happened to me.  I've been taking prilosex and pepcid 40mlg each.  it doesn't really help that much but I don't have any side effects from it.

How long have you been taking prilosec 40 mg for?

5 years or longer.  I can't remember exactly when  started taking it.

This past week I have developed constipation as well and was wondering if it was Lansoprazole.  I took 60mg first month, dropping to 30mg fir two months which I almost at the end of. I then go onto 15mg maintainance.

its  worrying for me as as I have prolapses and had a smear of blood from the constipation two days ago.
