Hi Michelle
I'm in peri - age 50 - my bowel habits have changed too ... lots of windy pains, and stools have changed too ... small pellets at the start then followed by a semi-normal stool ... weird ... hormones I fear ... and also developed a couple of haemorrhoids too due to changes in skin thickness I think - due to hormones ... the joys. Small meals, chew food properly and green tea - proper stuff - Matcha powder - expensive but the real stuff :-)
I believe you can have too much fibre, and it can start to 'clog' you up.
I have flax seeds every morning with my porridge. I use a pestle and mortar to grind up a couple of tablespoons of seeds. This does two things. One it makes the Omega 3 more readily available and, two, the ones you miss act like dynarod on your insides. They must be fresh though as you don't want rancid oil! Works for me.
you can buy them already ground up ... saves a bit of time :-)
Eating steamed or boiled vegetables will soften it up.
Trouble with that is once they are crushed the oil in them can go rancid very quickly and any treatment to prevent this probably destroys any benefits from the oil anyway. Grinding them up only takes a few seconds.
Flaxseeds are great. I use them too. Put them in your freezer to prevent them from going rancid. Also since grinding them yourself, you only use a little anyhow. If I grind too much, I put them in the freezer and use them the next day. Sometimes I'll buy the already ground flaxseed which I store in the freezer too. I use 2 tablespoons daily (ground).
just keep them in the fridge :-) I do that with all my nuts too :-)
Thankyou everyone for your replies. I'll go and buy some flaxseed tomorrow x
My bowels changed too, constipation was a real problem and seemed like I passed nuggets thought for a while I was turning into a rabbit! Again some months are worse than otheres. I picked up on magisum citrate which helps!
Sorry......I shouldn't laugh, but you made my day about turning into a rabbit.
Plus.....off topic here, but flaxseeds are great when you run out of eggs. I even make my own hair gel with it!
😂😂
Does anyone know if putting olive oil in the frig will keep for longer? Or even if it's to refrigerate? It seems mine go bad even before I use up half of the bottle. Thanks
Hi CC, refrigerating olive oil will not extend it's shelf life.
I came across this from a food website which I know is actually true information:
The average life of such oils is about 18 months from crushing of the olives, says Estevez. And since it takes about six to 12 months to go from crushing to bottling, an olive oil that has reached supermarket shelves has at best six to 12 months of shelf life. And that doesn't account for shipping time and the store's rate of turnover, which can significantly impact the shelf life of an oil.
That's why I buy olive oil that doesn't come from a million miles away. Try to buy one that appears to be closer to your area. Hope this helps.
Yes thanks Sochima. I'll be sure to buy a smaller bottle too.
Yes, if you're not constantly using it or cooking with it then a small bottle would make sense.
Magnesium citrate and chelated magnesium help to keep me regular, as well as a healthy diet and lifestyle!
Citrate can upset my tummy, so take 100mg citrate and 100mg chelated in am.
Then 200mg chelated after dinner.
400mg apparently is a good daily dose for our age group.
Hope this helps jx
Thankyou for your reply. I take magnesium citrate twice a day. Should I take another? I'm wondering if it's that making me feel nauseous all the time?
Michelle, some of us can't handle magnseium citrate. I tried it and had to give it up because it made me nauseous and it didn't make me feel well. The only way to see if it's the magnesium making you sick is to stop taking it for a week and see if you're no longer getting nauseous or having maybe other side effects. If you're still nauseous even after not taking it then start taking it again.
