I've had problems all of my life and at the moment my condition has worsened, but unfortunately it's something that we don't talk about. I've got fibromyalgia, arthritis and herniated discs in my spine consequently I'm in a lot of pain all of the time so it's a catch 22 situation my tablets cause the constipation but I need my tablets! What's the answer?
LINSEEDS!! These little seeds are absolutely amazing at sorting out constipation and regulatif your bowels, and I have them every morning. I buy the organic golden linseeds from H&B. You can stir them into a smoothie, sprinkle them on your breakfast cereal, on salads during the day, or you can soak them in water for 20 minutes and eat them with a spoon. When they get into your system, each seed becomes coated with a gel type substance, which helps with the passage through your system. The coating soothes any bowel problems too, and they are all natural, so there won't be any nasty side effects or " running " to the loo. They really are amazing!!
...........just to add, if you take Magnesium supplements, you won't need the Linseeds, because Magnesium can give you diarrhoea.
Hi Sukest, I too have a problem with constipation. At the moment I take prebiotics and probiotics which seem to be helping. Wind is a problem to begin with until your vowel adjusts to the bacteria. You need to make sure you compare the packets carefully and look out for deals as they are expensive as well as a high count of billions of bacteria. Prunes also help and high fibre either in way of extra fruit and veg or fibogel sachets.
I'd recommend Boots Calcium and Magnesium with vitamin D. A great laxative when taken in sufficient quantity. Over time it will almost certainly help your fibro symptoms too.
thats why even thou iv got all over body pain plus i also have lower back problems from a fall , the thought of having painkillers that cause constipation just fills me with dread .so just get by with topical pain killers that take the edge of .
have you tried old fashioned laxative like syrup of figs .
I have just bought some of these on your recommendation. I hate laxatives with a passion( I definitely need them) . I have noticed that when I use magnesium oil that helps. Going to try stopping that and taking the tablets and see what happens. Most laxatives make me feel worse than the constipation which I'm used to!
The thing is that magnesium will only act as a laxative once you take too much! That was how I realised quite how deficient in magnesium I was. I can take three times the RDA before suffering any laxative effect. Everyone will be different so trial and error. It's well worth it because as I said on Lynda's thread, after two months on magnesium I've had an 80% pain reduction and getting a better sleep.
Don't worry about taking slightly too much magnesium. It is far better than deficiency and won't do you any harm. Do check for reactions with drugs though. I don't think it's great with diabetes meds for example.
You still need to be careful with magnesium as it needs to be balanced with calcium otherwise it can affect the way the muscles work.
i wouldnt stop using the oil i would just add the magneisum supplement
you might find if you take it at a higher does that you wont need a laxative
as magneisum supplements can cause dioreeh , so it might solve both probelems .good luck
iv used magneisum by spray and tablet at lower dose and i still got dioreeh
but then again most people get constapation from iron tablets i got dioreeh
and had to have 16yrs of injections because of it .
so gues i just have a very sensistive system.
Yep I started taking magnesium , but have had to stop as diarrhoea was terrible ,even though taking codien phosphate, I never know if it's what I'm taking or the IBS , can't find a happy medium
i wouldnt double the dose like blues man said i think thats a bit risky .
Entitled to your view of course and I'm not a doctor. However I am not aware of any particular risk to health from taking excess magnesium. I take between two and three times the RDA. It sure beats the horrendous pain and insomnia which is the alternative.
i have no probs with what anybody decides to do ,that helps them
just for me having Aspergers Syndrome as well as fibro i do have a very sensistive system . i use it alot topicaly which helps a great deal .
your not alone.
Wendy thank you so much for your advice, I was actually thinking about ordering some Magnesium after reading different peoples posts saying how it had helped them with their pain. They never however, until now mentioned diarrhoea as a side effect an effect that could actually be good for me! So Magnesium here I come haha thank you again for your advice. Huge hugs. S xx
Thank you Caroline I'll look into the pre and probiotics and thank you especially for your advice on the cost. I for one take quite a few over the counter supplements and they're not in any way cheap!! Huge hugs. S xx
Thank you bluesman for your advice I am going to order some Magnesium for both of its effects, pain relief and laxative. Thanks again huge hugs. S xx
